I met a lot of guys with close relatives from the civil war. I even met a guy who met a guy that had fought at the Alamo. My mom was barely 19 when she had me and still her grandma was born in 1862. And one cool story was a guy that i did a job for his name was Gus Thomason not sure the spelling of his last name now tho anyway this was like 20 years or so ago. And when job was done I walked in to his office and this guy was like 80s then. But anyway i saw him on a picture with 5 Presidents so i asked him how he managed to get him self on a picture with 5 Presidents. It was Carter. Both Bushes. Clinton. And Reagan and he said well he used to be the commissioner or something like that during the Reagan administration in the white house and he told me story how he ran away from home at age 15 got him self all the way to California picking oranges i think it was and slept in the field and made him self all the way to the white house. He said his teacher had once told him Gus you can become anything you want too be and he said i wish she coukd see me now. And he was runing a business then that took care of all the uniforms for the entire military all branches. And then it hit me i was traveling on Gus Thomason highway on the way to work every morning but never connected it with him until then. But he also told me his grand parents came west in a Prairie wagon during the so called wild west and Indian wars. I think he said late 1860s

Commissioned officers were triaged first in a hospital - no matter the need/severity of a privates. injury.
As a person who has seen action SAS. I studied military history. My military hero Gen Joshua L Chamberlain (MOH) once said
,
army life is 90% boredom. 10% total fear/action.
I can confirm after boot camp / hard core specialists training, During a war, its boredom, cont training etc etc. action is actually about 10%. Exactly how Chamberlain said, Sherman said.
Stonewall Jackson said, a soldier has vast boredom, but that soldier focus. He must
pray, fight and die. If you died under Stonewall command, he would be heard saying about the death, very commendable. very commendable
Picketts Charge resembles the ANZACs charged into machine gun fire at the NEK in WW1.
The firing of a civil war musket was broken down to 11 steps. Lincoln personally tested every new gun outside the White House. He approved the repeater rifle and the Gatling

Fun Fact which has been seemed to be lost to history. Most confederate soldiers had 2 options before joining the war. They could either not join and be called traitors, ironically, or join and die in battle. Most of the soldiers for the Confederacy were illiterate, meaning recruiters would make up any lies to get people to join. I had a relative who was still living in the early 2000s who's husband had fought in the civil war. He was literate and we have letters of the lies the commanding officers were telling the soldiers. He stated that he was told that the yanks betrayed the South and were invading. He worked in Illinois in the Winters and knew that was not the case. The Civil War was not about slaves. Neither side cared about the slaves. They only cared about the money.

on the evening of the first day of Fredericksburg, the Union soldiers had no orders to fall back, and the Confederates were stuck firmly behind their stone wall on Marye's Heights.
they pushed corpses in front of them to form a sort of barricade, because rebel sharpshooters kept taking shots at anything that moved in the darkness. the Union soldiers lay down and pulled corpses over themselves for warmth and shelter.
that night, the aurora borealis (northern lights) flickered and danced in the night sky overhead. one of the very, very rare times the northern lights have ever been seen that far south.
war is hell. that's double true for the Civil War.
idk how anyone survived that massacre.

simple concept basic logic if life is not free why the hell would death be any cheaper it's not. So the question one may wonder is the spiritual cost to one's own soul and spirit for having lived and died to the lowest standards of quality for so many years now global pollution has diminished the quality of life to the point where today's people are living, dying and yielding the worst spiritual kickback that has ever been manifested since the beginning of life only getting worse. The polar opposite extreme to that is today's people should be living and dying to the highest standards of quality which would make each and every moment physically, mentally, financially and spiritually beneficial. Lincoln was a murdering scumbag who got what he deserved. He started an unnecessary war for no reason. He was responsible for over 600, 000 battlefield deaths plus the war wounds that were worse than death add in the widows and orphans abe created, and that's about 2 million lives ruined. Not to mention removing such a large number of grandfathers from the family structure. Yet, we still see these little articles about how sad abe was after loosing 2 kids. What a hypocrite! He was also a dimwit. Anybody with half a brain who did what he did would go into hiding or travel with 50 body guards. But, he was clueless. Nobody but abe was surprised when his second term ended early.

The most advanced ancient royal elite super superior dominate civilized nations. Made sure all their loyal subjects were able to live and die to the highest standards of quality that were available during that time and they can do this without anyone overstepping their boundaries. Because the end result of such a lifestyle. Is constant consisting physical, mental, financial and spiritual progress occurring within each and every moment of life. That Level of care to oneself and others results in a truly positive force that is self perpetuating continuously. S. R. F.

Confederates were absolutely decimating the Union for the first 3 years of the war. This war was also incredibly complicated and the human elements of it were just too tangled, messy, and gray for the North good; South bad narrative that everyone seems to love. The main moral issue notwithstanding, I don't take any sides when I study history. I just don't like how it's taught virtually anywhere in our education system: /
This was a pretty good video though, thanks!

As slow as molasses dripping from a tin kettle in 30% below zero, high Winter is how fast it started and is still going. ! Racist Jim Crow Laws, No Representation And Lack Of A Basic Education To live And Thrive Economically brought/ Brings even More And Sometimes Worse Suffering to African Americans! To this very day people say something needs to be done but no one ever seems to really accept unity, and equal rights or, By God, we would have them in good, old America!

I am honored to have seen some of the Union soldiers especially young one that fought in the war to free a group of people that were not of their own race. All throughout the history of war that kind of loyalty devotion and commitment has NOT been part of the reasoning for one to put their life on the line knowing they may become partially or completely paralyzed dying on the battlefield. It's a lot to consider especially in your early teenage years.

1 min in and you hit the nail on the head of what ive been trying to tell folks for year. Most confederate soldiers did fight for slavery and most union soldiers could could care least if hey freed the slave or no. That bring said its great that in the end the slave's were free. Just wish a war wasn't fought it and 1000s of young men and 100s of civilian to die in the fighting.

Why the narrator gotta be woke? He said majority of soldiers were neutral about Slavery. That's false. There was plenty of Union soldiers who signed up to end slavery. My family was one of them and it's in my family book but why should I believe that? I should believe this woke narrator who probably not even An American but he an Expert on civil war. Gtfoh. Thumbs down video

I had great and great great grandfather's in the Civil War for the Union. Some served honorably, one I'm embarrassed about. He started out as a straggler and managed to spend his 2 years in service being sick and in a hospital It didn't seem to interfere with his ability to get busy with my great great grandmother because she gave birth in 1865 to my great grandfather

Yesterday we toured Pulaski, saw home of KKK beginning. Visited site where confederate scout Sam Davis was captured & site where Union hung him 8 days later. Visited many country graveyards where headstones marked buried soldiers. Saw battle areas scattered throughout Tennessee wilderness. It must've been hell for these Americans.

What might have motivated a teenager to let himself be shot dead or crippled for people and fatherland? Was he an orphan without family ties or just seduced by heroism or what was commonly understood by it? Or were the boys simply looking for adventure? From today's perspective, such behaviour is difficult to understand.

I had a relative who fought for the Union side during the civil war. He immigrated from Germany. He had military experience so he did a lot of the training of the soldiers. Eventually he was sent to the front where he was captured by the south and imprisoned. He eventually became sick and died in this very prison.

more People died in the civil war from infection than any other thing because surgeons did not sterilize their equipment in between patients. Think about this the Roman Empire 3000 or more years prior to the Civil War had already concluded that sterilizing their surgical equipment was key for the best outcome.

I cannot fathom walking shoulder to shoulder in a line into massed musket fire or cannons loaded with grape shot. If you survived the opening canon fire then you were expected to walk into point blank range of a prepared enemy position. Tactics that were little changed from the days of swords and spears. SMH.

Bruce Catton summed it up best when he said there was no other time and place in history as deadly to the soldier as the American Civil War. The soldiers on both sides knew this; and that they were getting the very worst of it. They soon developed a deep rooted cynicism and a wicked gallows humor to cope.
