Great example of Life repeating art or facts stranger than fiction! I always loved the name Ines it would be an elegant name for a pet. (I prefer animals to humans after meeting too many of the later) Pedro was a badass. Part of it was love for Ines and the super traumatized babies that saw her massacre but part of his flex was to show Daddy man who is really boss. To show that he chooses his wife so its self as much as love for the other. All of those drives seem as likely as romantic love.

What is romantic in there?
That the man she loves is married and she keeps fcking her lady's husband?
She became the reason for the continues neglect and disrespect of the man to Constanza. Everyone is against their relationship but she continued as if with some hidden agenda. For all we know it might be, she climbing the social ladder by using love.
I don't see Ines being in love with him, she's using him to be SOMEONE.

I wouldn't consider him cruel or brutal. On the contrary what his father did to his Pedro's wife, the women his son loved more than anything, and mother to half of his children was cruel, brutal, and heartless. especially since it was done right in front of their children. What Pedro did is what I think many of us would want to do if someone had brutally killed the love of our lives, and if front of our children.

You have a small mistake in the video. King Afonso I (Afonso Henriques, also known as The conqueror) was the very first king of Portugal and he lived in the 12th century. King Pedro's father was King Afonso IV.
Nonetheless, this is a great video! I've always loved this tale! Thank you for showing some history of my little country, Portugal: D

This is truly a tragic love story and I'm totally tearing up
Really can't blame the guy for anything he did.
you have to be truly in love too. to take such drastic measures
it's kind of beautiful and I would totally watch it if it was a movie!
As well as probably cheer as the assassins got their hearts ripped out

No, I don't see marital unfaithfulness as romantic, royal or otherwise. And revenge killing of the assassins and in the war against his father is not noble or admirable. Shocking trauma for the children of the murdered mistress. A deplorable story and not comparable to Romeo and Juliet whose love was innocent. Good video

Their tombs aren't side by side, but facing each other, so that when the end of time comes and they're ressurected they'll be the first thing the other sees.
It's possible though that this is a posthumous addiction to the legend and that, originally, they were side by side.

What a beautiful and supremely tragic story. To love someone so deeply. His loss was very deep and very clear. His revenge, laser focused. My heart breaks for both of them. I do hope they spend eternity together and their bond of love is always as strong as in life.

This is just as bad as the Cadaver Synod of Pope Formosos. He was dug up dressed in his papal gear and put on trial in 897 for perjury by the succeeding Pope. Go figure why a Pope a man of God would do this to another man of God.

The Romeo and Juliet of Portugal. That's how I remember their love story the years I grew up in Portugal. You gave a more complicated love story than the one I remember. You learn something every day.

Oh, I have heard that story so many times, and am always ready to hear it again. The best I heard was a feminist troupe singing the the tale in the 1980s. If I can find it I will post it here.

I'm actually crying. His sarcophagus is so beautiful. And it says Til the end of the world.
I feel so bad, all they wanted was to be with eachother, and grow old together.

All would have been fine if he could have married the love of his life from the beginning. His father is to blame for every single person that died because of this conflict.

True love prevails. Really surprising as royals used to marry for powerful alliances and wealth, not for love. He must have loved her deeply, crowning her posthumously.

That's a savage move on his part! Imagine having to kiss the hand of a disgusting, stinky and rotting corpse. The smell alone probably made everyone in the room gag.

Well important for her children that the marriage be officially recognized and her declares Queen. They are then capable of being heirs to the throne.

Peter the Cruel? More like Peter the Cool. I respect a revenge plot years in the making, especially after his wife and children were treated so horrifically.

That was such a sweet and sad story. These royal affairs never last long when they're flings so you can tell they really loved each other
