Queen Victoria proposed to Albert not Albert to Victoria. Because she was already crowned as Queen she had to propose. Also the history of diamonds in South Africa in your video is not correct, the young boy Erasmus (whose entire name was pronounced incorrectly in this video) found a diamond on his family's farm thinking it was a crystal as he collected stones. His sister liked it and he gave it to her as a toy to play with. The family had the stone for a while before a British visitor to the farm saw the stone and advised the family that he thinks the stone might be a diamond. He asked the family permission to take to stone back with him to Brittian to get it verified, but he only collected the stone on his way back from his intended destination. Once he confirmed to family that the stone was indeed a diamond there was no rush to the farm to mine diamonds as the farm was privately owned and uninvited trespassers would have been seen as a threat and most likely shot because during the 1800's South African was a very dangerous place - not that much has changed now. In fact the family refused several offers, some from the UK to buy the farm but this did not happen until more diamonds were found on the farm over the next couple of years, because finding 1 diamond on a farm does not mean there is a huge deposit of diamonds in the groud. The diamond rush only happened later in areas where larger amounts of diamonds were discovered lying around in those areas. Thank you for mentioning South African diamonds but I am wondering why the narrator kept referring to South African diamonds as if they are inferior and thus effected the diamond market in a negative way. I am aware that an influx of diamonds in the market makes the value of diamonds drop because there are so many diamonds available, but it was not because South Africa diamonds are inferior. We have some of the highest prized diamonds in the world; even Queen Elizabeth has a large a South African diamond as the centre piece of her crown.

I wear my ring because to me it symbolizes my commitment to not just my husband but my family that we are together forever, its done. We found love and its us the end, this ring proves that. However I specifically told my significant other to NOT spend so much money for multiple reasons 1. Makes NO sense why anyone would spend so much money on something so small that can get lost, damaged, stolen, etc. because humans use their hands for everything 2. Its a market scam 3. Makes me a target for thieves (big ring, lets chop her finger off and run) 4. Again, if I loose it thats $$$$$$ gone for good and if found more than likely will not be returned 5. The meaning of the ring is what one puts on it, not the actual value the market says it has. Thankfully my ring cost $100 (which is still a lot to me but thankfully not as much as other women who arent famous yet has their husband spend $30k on a ring) 6. Instead of spending THOUSANDS of dollars in one ring, save that for yourselves! Your children! Your home? A car? Anything else, especially if youre household is medium to low income your ring realistically shouldnt be more than $300 max, thats just dumb spending. But noooo, many women want to show off their huge ring, the bigger the better.

With cubic zirconium being eco-friendly and fairly identical to mined diamonds, theres no need to pay the authentic price anymore. Nobodys gonna know.
In fact, u could have a legit mined diamond and its worth zilch without the original letter of authenticity. Its that checkbook-folder receipt they give u to get free cleanings. Sometimes ya get a card too.
Kays switched a vintage lobster clasp to an o ring closure on my grandmas bracelet. They were asked to fix a link on it and they angled the before pic so the clasp didnt show. Mommy wore that thing every day of her life, she knows what she had. She just kept tearing up every so often cause she noticed her bracelet changed in weight. Kays sent her to Jared cause theyre the same company. I wont do business with either. Id rather let Subway fix my jewelryor rather the guy in the flea that works in front of you. Be careful a jewelry cleaner aint swapping ur stones and stuff cause they will.

I ended up in a back-and-forth with a woman one day when I complimented her on her ring. I dont remember which gemstone it was, but she said, Thank you, its my birthstone.
Ooh, so is mine!
No, yours is a diamond.
Its my birthstone.
No, its a diamond.
Its my birthstone. (I was having fun with this fool because she never stopped to actually think)
Oh yeah? Whens your birthday?
April
So, whats the birthstone for April?
Diamond.
Ohoohhhh. Its your birthstone. Well, its still the traditional ring.
Its still my birthstone.
There was another woman in the same line that had been eavesdropping on this exchange, trying not to laugh. When Mrs. Birthstone was gone, she whispered to me, I was wondering if she was ever going to figure it out. I mean, even I know diamond is the April birthstone. Then we both laughed.

My first engagement ring was a. 25 karat diamond with blue sapphires around it. Looking back, for the size of the stones I think it was not a good price at all. Probably because it was purchased from a well known jeweler in the metro area. After that experience I learned my lesson and we skipped the engagement ring for the second time around. We just ordered our wedding rings off Amazon and I picked an intricate vintage style 14 karat white gold celtic knot wedding band with 4 tiny diamonds dispersed around the band, which I absolutely love! My husband picked a tantalum band, which is quite heavy but durable. Nothing broke the bank and we picked what we wanted. I never liked how we were brainwashed to want diamond engagement rings thanks to all the years of clever De Beers marketing. Totally overrated IMO. Stick to what makes you happy.

Diamonds are a status symbol. Thats why people buy them as far as Im concerned. They show wealth or effort or act as a modern day male dowry for a woman lol.
Looks-wise they are not that special? There are so many lab gems these days which are extremely sparkly for a fraction of the cost. Also what is wrong with wanting some color? There are so many stones I can think of which have more special and beautiful properties. Opal, moon stone, labradorite etc.

I read that a man was going to sell diamonds at a cheaper price and DEBEERS told him that if he sold cheaper diamonds that others might sell at a cheaper price they told him it would make all the diamonds in the industry less valuable. And that they would flood the market with cheaper diamonds and. I think they told him they controlled the the diamond market and he couldn't get the diamonds. Because they are all about the money. Like everything else.

This and marriage is such an old fashioned concept in 2022, just live together do as you please have kids etc because most laws nowadays cover living in sin after all its just an old tradition and a piece of paper. Vows can be made by 2 people without witnesses large amounts of money for a wedding etc. Its more personal that way. Buying a front door is more important to spend your money on. Cant beat your own roof over your own head.

I actually think diamonds as a gemstone are pretty neat (and breathtaking if they are cut well) because of their sheer hardness and solidity. I absolutely hate predatory and exploitive capitalism so I am pleased to be wearing a Montana sapphire with recycled diamond accents. Diamonds are coming to their end like the rest of our late stage capitalist society

My partner got me a silver band with a pale aquamarine because it's my birthstone. I LOOOVE its pale blue green hue. We won't ever get actually married because it's not for us, but we exchanged rings in our own little celebration of our relationship. His is from a local jewelry artisan I found with a couple different metals, no stones. I love our rings.

You can keep your coloured stones. Give me diamonds any day. No other stone shines like a diamond. Nothing pleases me more than having them all cleaned and people commented on the sparkle. I hate coloured stones. My birthstone is emerald. I gave it to a friend. Each to their own but I will take a 4 carat diamond over a 4 carat sapphire any day of the week.

I dont do diamonds. Its a total joke. There just as many of them as any other gem and they are not worth what they are sold for. I told my husband when we met, if he ever decided to propose I will not take a diamond ring and would prefer a ring that is silver with a blue stone of some kind. I hate gold too. Its not pretty. I prefer silver.

Ive never like the idea of a diamond engagement ring personally. Ive always found them generic and bland.
Ive maintained for years that when it finally comes to it if a man ever asked me to marry him with a diamond ring Id tell him no. Because he obviously doesnt know me enough to marry me if you dont even know I dont like diamond rings.

Meh. I've never been an enthusiastic jewelry wearer. Ever seen a finger degloved by a ring in a work accident? It's disturbing. I've seen ears torn by ear rings being ripped out too. if someone thinks I'm poor coz I've got no bling then I'm less likely to be a robbery victim. There's plenty of good reasons to go without some glitter.

I ended up choosing a moissanite for my engagement ring! I wanted the look of a large stone and there was no way we were paying the diamond price tag for that. I eventually do want a salt and pepper diamond ring because I do love the inclusions on the imperfect diamonds, and possibly an included sapphire ring or band as well

Hmmm, I always connect diamonds to engagement rings because diamonds are one of the toughest (most durable) stones, if not the most durable stone. and so it symbolized the strength of the union.
We didnt really know about the blood diamond situation when we got engaged if we had, I would have chosen something else.

After 34 years of marriage, I can't imagine another ring. It's a diamond with a gold band. My children however, like the rock rings, silicone, and just simple bands (platinum. I just guess it's a generation, economy, and priority situation. as long as they love and cherish one another.

Diamonds are overpriced and common, but the high quality diamonds are rare. There's a reason diamonds can range from $50 to $15, 000. This applies to gemstones in general. A $15 ruby and a $7, 000 ruby are both rubies, but there's a reason for that price difference.

Maybe I have a messed up humor but I could see myself or partner proposing with a ring pop and going shopping together to find engagement rings. I dosen't have to be over the top shiny and pretty I just want it to be durable and last while staying a simple design.
