Firstly, Picts extended right up to the north of Scotland via the east through modern Fife, Dundee and Aberdeen. Its thought they originally extended to the west but were either chased out or bred out by the Gaels and the Scotti (from whom Scotland takes its name.
Several Pictish tribes were absolutely known to the Romans, including the Caledonii (after which they named Scotland) and the Maeatae, between both of whom modern Scotland was divided.
The Romans are thought to have owned as far north as the River Clyde and Alt Clut (the Rock on the River) which is modern day Dumbarton - named after Dunn Breatann, the fortress of the Britons in Gaelic.
The area of Alt Clut, from which the Clyde gets its name, was part of the territory of the Atticottii, a client tribe of the Caledonii. The Romans thought the tribes uncivilised because they didnt build towns, but moved around their territory sleeping in tents.
There are remnants of the Atticottii that have survived to this day, such as the Cochno Stones and several burial mounds in the area
Also, Gaelic is not gay-lick in a Scotland. Its Gah-lic - the former is Irish
Good job on Alba, though. Even many Scots pronounce it as its written, rather than with the hard L and the more rounded A to make the sounding of the world Ulubu
Kilts were brought to Scotland by the Norse, Tartan is from the French word and clan tartan was actually a con by 2 English brothers looking to cash in on the Scottish popularity of the 18th Century when the act of union sent a wave of Scottish popularity down south, bagpipes and whisky were almost certainly brought to Scotland by the Romans, as was haggis.
It feels like there is a mixing up of Picts, Celts and the Gallic tribes that inhabited the south of England (the clue is in names that appear in the south of England also appear in the North of France)
The Bede history is a nonsense. The Picts were on the lands of modern Scotland before the Scotti or the Scots. There were certainly no kings, but clan chieftains
Its also important to note that Picts didnt have horses. In fact, they wouldnt have known what a horse was until the Romans.

A good little video on the Picts. However, you use the term 'British isles' and 'Britain' as if that's what the land mass was called at the time, when Britannia us a Roman term, externally applied to these islands, and as such as false a conglomerate term for the land as the term Picti for the various tribes. Another example of this mistake in your video is saying the Roman term for London was Londonium, but it's the other way round in that London is the term derived from Londonium and so it's an external name given by the Roman invader. This is why Scotland is Scottish and not British. This is why British Nationalism is false in its entirety, because it is based on Roman imperialism and not on any reality of Britain ever being a Nation.

You should do a video on 'The Gallowglass' they were mercenaries from western Scotland and were descendants of both Scots and Vikings. They hired themselves out as bodyguards to kings, they cleared the island of Ireland of English and much much more. They would fight their own brother (who was also Gallowglass) to the death in order to accomplish their mission and collect their fee. They were the most feared warriors of their day on the British isles.
This time if you choose to do this video please get your facts correct because the video i just watched was full of innaccuracies and laughable tripe.

Always beautiful to whiteness how so many people thinks to know who was who, and what was what thousands of years ago, gifting judgments, cheering at one or the other name, claiming them as ancestors or ultimately getting mad and fighting each other over something purely based on few rest, some survived folklore (modified by thousands and thousands of mouths, hearsay and lot of assumptions. Truly fascinating. We are truly a gifted species for coming to conclusion. That said the video was interesting, thanks for sharing it

Years ago, when we were living in Colorado, my mother showed me where she had discovered one of our male ancestors on her side was a Pict warrior. She even told his name and other information to me but I failed to write it down. I've been working on my birth father's ancestry which has been very interesting. Sadly my mother passed away in October 2011 and my stepfather donated her genealogy research records and charts, she had wanted me to have, to a small town library in East Texas.
Warrior on!

I like the Picts. I am proud to be descended from them. Who would not like being descended from these awesome warriors? Who would not like inheriting their physiological traits. I don't know that I necessarily inherited any of my physiological traits from the Picts.
I think we all know Scots carry Pictish ancestry. I also knew Irish & Icelanders carry Pictish ancestry. I did not know English did.
I am a Barbarian buff. I am interested in any ancient Northern European group.

Well according to most unobscured sources, the Picts aka modern day Scots it seems were a non Indo European speaking people. probably speaking a Basque type language.
Considering that Scots also share high levels R1b with Basques. It seems to cast alot of doubt on the theory of indo european origin of this haplogroup or that pre Roman Britain was populated by IE speaking Celts.
My advice is, consider what the actual sources say before believing everything a video tells you

You didnt mention Tartan Ogham.
The ancient Caucasian mummies of Urmchi in western China were buried with 12 colour Tartans. The coloured thick and thin lines of the Tartan correlated to alphabetical letters.
Individual Tartans could be read at a distance which identified Friend or Foe. before coming into striking distance. If you think Tartan Ogham is odd there was also Tree Ogham.
The trouble with this His-Story most was written by ignorant Romans.

I read an account within the last year that in the 10th Century a Viking Warlord conquered Northern Scotland and held Sutherland, but initially took much more further south. During this attack, most of the Pictish Nobles and soldiers were wiped out. It was then that the Gaelic peoples from the west organized with the remainder of the Picts to drive the Vikings back, it was shortly after this that the Kingdom of Alba became powerful.

Pictish woman fought along side their men, they were fercum warriors, when the Gaels came to Scotland and merged with the Picts the Kings were chosen by a vote, possibly because in Ireland they fought to be king, those who failed the test had their nipples cut off, the Picts, Gaels and Celts assimilated into the Scots identity who have always fought others and themselves

The Picts aren't mysterious at all. They are just Britons with a penchant for tattoos and a resentment at being made to pay Roman taxes in order to visit and trade with their relatives south of the border. I just love the suggestion that they fought nude to distract their enemies. Whoever dreamt that up needs to come out of the closet.

The Picts are indirectly responsible for the arrival of the English in Britain.
Hengest and Horsa (Jutes) were invited to Britain by Vortigern to drive back Pictish invaders, which they promptly did. The subsequent falling out over performance-related pay, led to the reinforcement by Saxons and Angles, and the rest is.

These ppl pictured aren't even a description of what a Pict is. But why lie? What's the point? If you read about the Picts. It's clear that they were dark skinned ppl. Why do we have to assume everyone from Europe looked Caucasian. Seriously. Or everyone that's dark is African? When we can literally read about these ppl.

It was my understanding that the Picts were in Scotland first (whatever it was called back then) and some of the Irish joined at some point and the Scots are the generations following that union. it is also possible that other groups joined. Discovering the gene marker is pretty awesome.

They lived in Northern Scotland - north of the Firth of Forth, roughly Antonine's Wall. The native Britons were south of that. And they were not a tribe. There were any tribes which eventually formed seven separate kingdoms, which in turn confederated in the face of the Roman threat.

What is the rationale behind suggesting that the Picts were massacred at all rather than simply being assimilated into the new Norse/Gallic mainstream? Alba is obviously a Pictish word so if anything the new title suggests they were more prominent, not less?

It's in old practice too keep the dead not able to move their legs so the spirit may stay away from the realm of the living. Also women of celts weren't like later society actually they had equal rights as the men do and we're often warriors in their own right as well

The Scots are so proud and brave that they've begged pocket money from the English for the last 315 years. Before that they relied on the French.
Now they're making plans to let the EU (Germany) fund their unsustainable socialist dreams.
