The Story of Wojtek The Polish Military Bear

video description

In 1942, a band of Polish soldiers freshly released from prisons and work camps stumbled upon an unlikely mascot when they traded goods for a Syrian brown bear cub. Drawn to his friendly demeanor and his outspoken antics, the Polish troops who adopted the young cub came to think of him as one of their own. As the war progressed and the men strode into combat, the cub who would grow up to become Wojtek the military bear was right by their side

Wojtek was fed with cigarettes when his comrades smoked and when he was in Edinburgh Zoo, some old Polish soldiers visited him and saluted him by throwing cigarettes down to him as Wojtek loved to eat the tobacco. I know it sounds whack these days but hey the bear knew to salute, march, drink with his comrades (his favourite drink btw) and ate the tobacco of cigarettes besides carrying arms during war!

Could you imagine having to salute a bear because hes hire rank than you and him never taking it seriously when you salute him. But then you still get punished if you dont follow protocol. Or you guys are in battle and 1 person has to first run across the field while being shot at and even though he can run faster than the human by 10 fold he pulls rank making you do it. Smh.

Thank you God for fulfilling that bears life to the fullest. For a besr to enjoy the journeys he was able to is just remarkable. Never in human history would something like that be recorded such as this with so much photos and videos to prove. Absolutely remarkable story,

1: 55 ehm, no. Wojtek is just regular polish name, in Czechia it is Vojtech/Vojta, in Slovakia there is not (as far as I know. Yes, in east-slavic languages war is vojna and soldier is vojak, but it doesn't mean that it is part of name Wojtek. So good to know.

Hollywood don't Llike Polish people. and Polish Bears. We have mamy Heroes in second war. Realy incredible person: Jan Karski, Witold Pilecki or Irena Sendlerowa. Life od this people its better than film.

You bet I would go to combat with wojtek anytime. Yes, I am a combat veteran. Being able to capture enemy spies at night alone is a great contribution, carrying what it took 4 men to carry works too!

Imagine believing the invasion of Poland wasnt a joint operation between Nazi Germany and the USSR. Not the date this video was published, as you understand the practice of propaganda.

I think the bear could really relate to us because it can hold stuff and can walk upright. Sorry dogs and cats. You are all great but bears are superior
