On September 30th, 1960, The Flintstones became the first animated series broadcast in primetime. Despite the show’s breakout success, another animated sitcom didn’t really come around until December 17th, 1989, when The Simpsons -- originally from a short segment on FOX’s Tracey Ullman Show -- starred in a Christmas special that would quickly earn the animated family their own ongoing series.

I watched the show as a teenager when it debuted and thought the movie was absolute gold. The next 2 seasons felt like they were mailing it in so I stopped watching. A friend of mine had me watch the Crazy Critter Christmas episode a couple years after it came out, and I decided to give the show another shot.
I jumped in I think during season 9 or 11, in 2009 when they had the episodes about motorcycles and Michael Jackson dying. I kept watching for a few more years and then I will just jump in here or there with the show.
Loved the newer video games, though! Hard to believe those are around a decade old now!

I would have added you can trace thematic shifts over the decades. South Park always had social and political commentary but the way the show was formatted and the themes changed over time, which I think kept it relevant. Bonus points for remember how there was a massive dump of South Park merch in the first years and it was all shit. I had lot of South Park crap. Shirts, toys, just recently found a South Park Valentine's day card from like 98. First day of high school in 1997 had to cover up a Mr. Hankey t-shirt.

I was very upset that they didn't do a single thing with Biden. So much potential and they said it was because it was too easy or they were burned out from 4 whole years of making fun of trump. (Trump, played by Garrison was in more that 30 episodes. I think if they can make fun of physically handicapped children, they could have at least had one episode, even one joke about biden. It could have been with stairs, mumbling, or doing any of the wacky stuff he did. It was unbelievable. Very sad.

I wouldn't watch it for years cuz I didn't know what it was about and the amount of people around me attempting to imitate Cartman swearing annoyed me. I finally gave in around season 6 but watched the movie first and LOVED IT! Til this day I AM the one going around quoting Cartman AND pretty much every character! It has taught me a lot about life. Lol. I've never met anyone in real life that is a bigger fan than myself. P. S. I am a 48 year old female. Lol. Favorite show EVER!

The Isaac Hayes story was more sad than presented here. If you look at the timeline. He had a stroke, THEN the statement came out claiming he quit. He began a slow path to recovery and the Scientologists forced him out on the road but he was barely functioning. Then he had another stroke which killed him before he could fully recover. He was literally physically and mentally unable to have quit South Park, he was incapacitated. It's not he said/she said it's medical fact.

South Park is probably one of the smartest shows to ever air on television. Their laissez-faire attitude coupled with their ability to take on any source material is what makes them great. Whether it’s politics, religion, economy, democracy, or sociological issues, South Park is there to Give us the ability to laugh in the face of adversity.
And let’s face it they certainly called it when it came to going to war with Canada. It was just a little early right Lol.

The 2 South Park rpgs, stick of truth and fractured but whole are literally like putting yourself into a super long episode of the show. Along with all the standard video game stuff. And since the art styles are identical to the show it’ll never age bad. It’ll always be something you can go back to and it not be jarring. I’m currently playing the stick of truth and it’s fun and funny as hell lol

the episode basic cable had a phone number at the end you could call Trey Parker but it was a recorded message advertising how many episodes were for sale and the start price for negotiating terms, it thought i was hilarious when i called the number then shortly after that the news came out about the show shopping around for networks

South Park is interesting to me because it was one of the few things i remember from growing up in the late 90s that made a moral panic so much so to the point that my middle school had to put out a release in the school paper saying South Park merchandise, hats, and T-shirts would no longer be allowed due to their violent nature.

My favorite South Park memory is the conspiracy theory that the creators of South Park are the same kids that shot up Columbine. It's a crazy conspiracy, but damng those side-by-side pictures of the creators of South Park and the kids that shot up columbine are crazy too. The resemblance is uncanny!

It's a shame Trey and Matt lost interest. It was my favorite show. Now, we're lucky if they ever release a special. After watching Six Days to Air, I can see how they could eventually get burnt out from so many episodes. 20-something seasons with their time crunches is incredible.

As a huge South Park fan- PLEASE END THIS SHOW ALREADY! It has SUCKED for a while now- especially downhill since around season 17 or so, stop destroying south park’s legacy! Wrap it up already! Only season 1-9 is the golden age. 10-13 silver age. 14-17 Bronze Age. 18-current = trash

People who weren’t old enough to watch new episodes on Comedy Central in the late 90s and early 2000: have ZERO idea of how controversial and relevant it was at the time.
South Park and Chappelle show made Thursdays in high school the best night of the week.

South Park is more inclined to be truthful about a subject than even The PBS EVENING NEWS, and that bothers me. We shouldn't have to be getting the facts from a cartoon.
Give Matt and Trey their medals already. They have definitely earned it.

When I was in highschool I did a lot of baking, so one day I made Chocolate Salty Balls using Chef's recipe. I had to add a lot more flour to be able to roll the dough into balls, but Chef was right, they were salty, incredibly salty.

Their brutal mocking of smug liberals was handsdown the best. Randy's line from tweek x craig where he satisfactorially says we've only had a Whole Foods for a week and we already have our first gay kids. so cool. Is absolutely iconic.

Flinstones was first, and Simpsons was actually 3rd. The 2nd animated sitcom was from 72-74 called Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. It went for 3 seasons and starred Tom Bosley, who played the father on Happy Days.

Been watching the show since it started in 97. I remember when the movie came out in 99, I took 3 hits of LSD and went to the movies to watch it. Good times. Afterwards, we went to race go karts.

Definitely not the complete history! You didn’t even mention when they killed off Kenny for good at the end of season 5 and brought him back at the end of season 6 and why they did so

0: 21-0: 25 - And that's only if you disregard The Jetsons in 1962 and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (which to be fair, at best, has a cult following to say the very least) in 1972
