They didn't really answer the question though, -What if our solar system orbited a black hole? -, I interpreted this as having the sun replaced with a black hole. I would think life would be impossible, as all light, and heat do not escape the black hole. The Earth would be a cold and dark place, so cold that it would be near absolute zero. Now he did suggest that a very advanced civilization could come to Earth and mine the black hole for energy, but I interpreted the question as if the sun were replaced with a black hole, then all current life on the Earth would end.
