Have you ever experienced seasonal affective disorder or S. A. D? For those that have and do, the winter months can be a challenging time. Now, add a lockdown with extended periods of isolation for some and there is concern we could be heading into a mental health crisis in the coming months. So, who is better to speak to that than the person who literally coined the term S. A. D. and whose scientific research in this area has helped us better understand it and more importantly, how to best mitigate the detrimental effects of S. A. D? Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal joins Peter and Richard to help us find ways to deal with some of the challenging times ahead

I was deemed essential as a maintenance guy at a fast food place, so the beginning of the lockdown was no different for me, life has pretty much been the same except our lobby is 'temporarily' closed. Deep down I kinda hope the next coming lockdown gives me some time off, but I think this country just can't live without drive-thru fast food. Could really use a break, though. I'd love to spend a couple weeks doing nothing but gaming!

In South Africa we were actually in Lockdown the entire winter. We were in total/complete lockdown from the 28th of March till June sometime, then partial lockdown till September. Our winter in April - end August. We survived. Our tourism industry and our small businesses took the biggest knock and there's talks we might go into partial lockdown in December again which is when the tourism industry sees the most business. -

I lost enthusiasm and interest in work due to this lockdown in India.
I have become insanely lazy and uninterested in work.
I loved walking into office everyday and sit along my colleagues working hours together because there was noise, people and ambience.
Now I get up, eat, work, eat again and sleep in the same room everyday.
It's a horrible nightmare!

Why is it only always infections reported? and not deaths. that-s because the death numbers are not worrying because they are quite low but infection rates are very, very high and saying that 50, 000 people a day are getting infected (with close to 0. 12 infection to death rate) is their way of keeping you oh so scared

The pandemic hasn't been a challenge for me at all as an introvert and someone who doesn't talk to people or go out much, but it has caused me stress and anxiety and saddness for others who have lost people and have lost their jobs and business. I hope I don't lose anyone as well. My heart goes out to everyone.

Well if you have a job that allows you to work remotely or have been working remotely already before all of this started, then this situation doesn't strike you as hard as other people.

If you fail to mention high dose vitamin D3 (-10 000 IUs per day) with menaquinone (vitamin K2, you lose most credibility for me.

I have SAD all year. Doesn't matter the season -- just clinical depression, period. But winter does make the depression worse.
