santa claus is completely based on sinterklaas
this is a Belgian/Dutch tradition based on the story of saint Nicholas
it is likely that it were the Dutch who brought that tradition to the US, despite being a protestant country I have read articles which confirm that like with people hiding politics today and stil hiding religious convictions in certain countries many hid catholic convictions in the republic, anyway the tradition moved to the US, but he soon lost his catholic dress and staff and thin build for loose hanging clothes and a big belly
black pete was replaced by elves, (for the record black pete was a demon like krampus and in the early modern period demons were usually described as completely black men, at least in witchcraft testimonials
he also put bad children in the bag and punished them with the rod,
black pete may actually be an older tradition than saint nicholas had been, given that similar traditions can be dated back much further and are stil allive in Iceland
anyway, it is really funny that people are debating on whether santa comes from lapland or the north pole or finland whilst that is just a later version of a festive childrens holiday character from the low countries that was based on a byzantine saint (also not turkish, the turks arived in asia minor at a much later date than the greeks or any other ethnic group there)

Nothing remarkable about Christmas being secularized, as the myth about Santa Claus originates from pagan beliefs in the first place, and they were Christianized first before getting de-Christianized again. Also, Slavic peoples have their own analogue of Santa - Grandfather Frost. He sort of remained pagan, and so in Slavic countries kids receive presents on the New Year's rather than on Christmas, while Christmas is a purely religious holiday that comes AFTER the new year's, and is not widely celebrated, especially ever since USSR came along.

Assuming that the elves arent slaves, the existence of objective morality and an objective arbiter of moral goodness would be a major boon for society. The existence of theocracies would be made a null point because Santa, being benevolent, could directly correct unjust regimes like Iran, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia operating in the name of religion. So each theocracy would be forced to be benevolent because Santa would make standards of objective morality far more clear. No one could do bad things in the name of God anymore

I figured out that Santa did not exist by using math and demographics. I knew that there were a specific number of Christians on earth and that would believe in a Christian Saint. So when people said he gave gifts to all the children, I was in doubt because atheists do not believe in Saints and neither do Buddhists or many other faiths so I knew that this could not be possible and so I concluded he did not exist.
