Japan was never colonized like China was, and there were very good reasons for that, a 250-year military dictatorship (the Tokugawa) being one, that came out of the Sengoku period (from Wiki--) a period in Japanese history of near-constant civil war and social upheaval from 14671615, which was nasty, brutal, pervasive, and well-documented, with everyone writing down everything for future reference from about 800AD on. they did adopt ideas and writing from China, but didn't keep all of the the ideas and practices, and did some mighty adaptative things with the language. The Japanese haven't always made the best decisions, but they did think things through and refer back to previous mistakes, which can help you a lot in life.
And looking carefully into Japanese history, the tributary state situation may have existed in Okinawa, but the main Japanese attitude in everything I've read seems to indicate it was more a reciprocal exchange of gifts - the Chinese delegations came with gifts, so they sent them back with some gifts. You can say, they gave us all this nice stuff and call it tribute, but you shouldn't ignore what you gave them first, in order to get the return gifts. . Meanwhile, keep up the good work!

can't believe you've explained chinese civilization SO bad that it can't even be titled as 'understanding chinese CIVILIZATION'. the logic is chaotic, the illustration is unclear, the examples are only fragments that can not make any sense in a holistic picture of chinese history or chinese CIVILIZATION explanation. i am wondering where the sources that you make a reference from! that ain't makeing any sense!
maybe you get most of the history facts or records right but the whole way of your 'understanding' is so broken that i can't even point all of your pointless 'explanation' out one by one. disappointment.

Man China is actually a great civilization you're right, except it is being guided incorrectly since the communist won, world peace is almost guaranteed in the modern world if communism lost the Chinese civil war since it is unlikely for any Chinese neighboring communism countries like Vietnam, Laos or North Korea to survive or even exist thus making the whole world united with one ideology. China under nationalist or democracy will certainly mean that there won't be separation powers of west and east and would cooperate instead. What a waste to be honest.

As a Chinese, this video is full of crap - consist of very biased views from a typical westerner. One thing I can see for sure, if westerners continue with their current path of viewing China, WW3 is inevitable - too arrogant to understand any other cultures. Please get rid of your presumptive views, or at least learn Chinese and read literatures written in Chinese - to truly understand our history and thinking instead of reading a bunch of Wiki Articles and making non-sense videos like this.

Wikipedia disagrees with your airy assertion China did away with slavery over 2000 years ago. In fact, it says it persisted into the 20th century and today!
You're a highly rational analyst, but this isn't the first time I've noticed outrageous treatment of the facts on your part, in this case a blithe dismissal thereof. For my own part, I have read India had the least incidence of slavery in the ancient world.
Please try to get facts straight.

I also disagree with you that communism is responsible for the rapid economic growth of the past decades in China (29. 00. China is not a communist country, the communist party is only communist by name.

btw. do u think if you put the book your reference and citation when you reference a historical event bottom of the screen in the video. eg you talk about some x event and you got ur info from y book. so when u reference x event you show citation and book title of y book at the bottom of the screen. this is so people like vaush wont be like cRackpot hISTory

This attempt to cover Chinese Civilization in 30 minutes is very, very ambitious.
Generalization and superficial was expected, however, many mistakes are still blunt.
after spending more than 30 minutes watching 16: 44 of this video. I have to abort, or pause and maybe come back later to finish.
obviously, I cannot give it a thumb up.
