Also the US isn't on the verge of a civil war, I wish I knew the Chapo Trap House episode or just the clip name where they debunk this so well. Everybody should listen to it, but people aren't on the verge of civil war, they're quiet collaborators with the system they know is corrupt and broken, they hate it but they'll never have the courage to step out of line because compare our lives to those poor Chinese drones, they're still really awesome. But to soothe their emotions and repress this reality they all roleplay as would be revolutionaries on the internet. Unless it's a flame war fought entirely on Reddit with sick burns, there will be no such conflict. It's all absolute cringe and larping.

Here in the West, most armies are composed of professional, volunteer forces; or those who had to do public service for 2-6 years, and see it as a social obligation. They are well-trained, (mostly) well-equipped and often have public support.
In China and others like it, the Military is a tool used to keep young men employed and to open them to filtering. The most popular and loyal soldiers become officers, to keep the rest in line. All this means that if the Military is called in to suppress a general uprising in China, large portions of that miliary will revolt, and take at least some arms and bases with them. Even if the revolt is suppressed, it will damage the country so badly that it will revert to an even worse form of what it is now. or leadership will have to admit they are wrong, and make concessions to catch back up to the west.
In almost 5, 000 years, China has almost always chosen the former option. Even the modern government is just a polished version of the Qing and former dynasties.

I think the biggest factor working against a lot of your collapse models is that you don't seem to yet have an answer to the question of how to evaluate exactly how placating TV and internet and gaming are to oppressed populations. The 'desperation' threshold for taking action against an armed government has become far more dramatic now that we have the ability to just go sit at home and stare at a screen all night. In fact, there is plenty of reason to think that TV/internet isolationist entertainment has pushed that threshold so far that the state would likely need to collapse from within of its own doing before people took any action. The George Floyd riots were a decent example of this concept.

They dropped this years ago - Chinese cities are currently bursting with children! Yes, there will be a painful gap before they reach working age, but they have begun to fix the problem. Also, you cannot fathom the level of social cohesion in China. The CCP survived horrendous famine under Mao. Xi actually has more power than Mao could have dreamed of with digital social credit, etc. China may stagnate for a few years, but they will never have a revolution. A full scale revolutionary war is far more likely in the highly polarized USA.

Society is essentially the proxy word for trusting individuals cooperating.
If trust is lost, individuals stop cooperating, and society ceases to exist by definition.
And trust is very hard to build. It takes time, sacrifice, and good counting skills.
Incidentally, this is how you escape the poverty of low-trust communities - You practice counting, eventually notice who's stealing from you, and save yourself the loss, thus getting richer. You notice who's doing fair business, and build rapport over time. When honest people accumulate wealth together. we call that civilization.

Slightly relevant, slightly irrelevant anecdote: I live in the South US, and I’ve met several girls who were adopted from China because their parents had them in secret instead and put them in an orphanage instead of aborting them. The one child policy is being relaxed, but all the unborn girls who were killed are still gone, and it’s kinda too late to reverse the bad democratic trends at this point. Thank God some of those kids slipped through the cracks and now have happy lives in America/the West. I hope someday the Chinese will be free to manage their families as they see fit.

This is even more exacerbated by china’s policing of inner-migration within the country which can make people trying to live in Beijing for work but are from the countryside technically illegal transplants in the city, so if you’re a young dude from the country but want to go to move to the city for prospects good luck

I think China might crash, but a lot of the economic stuff you say on this video is a bit exaggerated.
I doubt most Chinese live in such tiny apartments, as I was living in China and saw most people living in rather small, but still liveable one-two bedroom apartments. Also buying was crazy expansive, but renting wasn't. You could get a nice modern one bedroom with a living room and kitchen for about 1500 yuan (and I lived in the second ring of Chengdu, and waiter or cook jobs often payed about 3000 yuan. Not great, but for a couple you can get by.

As a Chinese American who lived in China, I would largely agree with this video. The people there are largely nihilistic and pragmatic, as long as the economics hold they will largely keep their head down and not get involved in dissent. But when real estate collapses, can’t find jobs, cannot live in the comfort they are used to, then the society will fracture and violently break. The CCP has created a society based on lies and cruelty and the soil down with the blood of the countless murdered ancestors.

Tucker Carlson just put out an interview with Bret Weinstein where Bret said he saw camps, in the Darien Gap, of what appeared to be of mostly Chinese men who were clearly hostile to him asking questions and did not give a reason for their presence. Ostensibly the reason for them being there is to walk up to the southern border with the US. This might be a very good way to get rid of 40 million young men who have absolutely NO chance of ever getting married or having children.

As far as the traumatic effect of a generational war of the young against the old, China has already done that with the Cultural Revolution campaign against the 4 olds - Old Ideas, Old Culture, Old Customs, and Old Habits. It was nothing less than young revolutionary against Chinese culture, including all aspects of respect for elders. The standout image of the Cultural Revolution was young Red Guards beating and humiliating respected elder party leaders across the nation.

Honestly id not put any Chinese collapse, or fundamental societal shift that likes of a collapse of the current system till the 40s, 2030s at the earliest as things currently stand. But when it happens its gonna be very fast, very sudden, and without much warning, and be very, VERY bloody for everyone involved and will likely spill over in the bloodshed to nations all across the continent let alone the economic ramifications for the world as a whole.

All the flooding they went through last year got completely ignored by the MSM, and practically even the internet. Sinkholes opening under people, 74 crocs getting loose during the flooding, fake storm drains so the water had nowhere to go. Plus all the crop failures from drought. I've read Chinese governments have lasted through worse, but these incidents don't exactly look like the birthing pains of a burgeoning world power, to say the least.

This has been the most accurate 30 minute video displaying my understanding (been researching this for a long time too) of what is bound to happen in China. Saving it in case I ever come into a conversation about the situation that China is facing. While Americans here are also going to have a Rocky few years ahead, I’m at least grateful we are actively separating our markets from the Chinese cause that is where the most tension will be.

I feel like China being more religious again would be influenced by India. Like it did by Buddhism in the past, things like Bodhidharma from India traveling to China to establish Zen Buddhism. I mean once all the dust settles, the highly religious India is right next door. Given India trajectory of being richer, and having a relatively stable population demographics, it would also be gaining more influence in general more easily.

Xi doesn't seem like a competent leader, but I have little doubt he'll be able to force his people into compliance, even as the ship sinks.

1) a weak ruler who is inflexible and not creative at solving the current political problems
2)a divided ruling class
3)mass public discontent
4)cross-class alliance(the dissatisfied faction of the ruling class aiding the discontented public)
5)the authorities unwillingness to use force to quell the revolution.
