Asmr has some similar principals as psychic surgery which has effectively been used to heal trauma and even proved to be effective for reversing the growth of tumors usually done by a shaman. People have travelled to remote locations to healers. The shaman/healer uses tools to create a false surgery type event with no actual cutting. The mind is powerful and makes it real like a placebo effect. I'm not surprised that ASMR could grow. Scary, action movies have an effect on the nervous system. Asmr triggers the opposite. Sympathetic vs parasympathetic. Though binge watching Netflix doesn't have the benifits of reiki and personal connection does.

one thing he might have not shined the light on or didnt explain well is regarding the doctors visit is that id doesnt need to represent a relaxing case in real life cuz then you get creative as if you are playing a role play game with a child. they child cant hurt you in a serious manner when playing. for example playing doctors or cops the outlaws with them, you wont be arrested or pocked with an actual needle you will just play. only difference is in an asmr video you dont even have to care what your response is which results in less brain functions on your end. helps my with severe migraine cases.

I remember experiencing that weirdness when another student in high school was showing me math problems on my desk with their pencil. It was before laptops and cellphones. Computers were big with black screens and green letters that hardly made any sense.
Makes me wonder how young people see the world today that they've never have experienced not living with social media and the technologies they have today. Sad to say, they have no idea what they missed out on. The senses were more attuned to the surroundings and things that happened made that much more impression in your psych.

I'm 58 and I first noticed this when I was about 10. I remember a girl in school flipping through some index cards and the sound did it for me. I kept asking her to do it. Now, keyboarding is my primary trigger. When I hear it live, it feels like I could nearly pass out. I can't duplicate that feeling as well if I watch a keyboarding video.
I used to try to explain this phenomenon to people before it became -a thing- but no one knew what I was talking about. I searched the internet for it in about 2006 and couldn't find anything about it.

Hey, so I have a problem. I really love asmr and I couldn't live or sleep without it. But when the sounds are too intense on my right ear, it gets really uncomfortable and it tickels, but not in a good way. And I don't know what to do, cause I thought it maybe will go away, but it just got way worse. It got to the point where I can't watch asmr videos with 2 mics anymore, cause everytime it comes to the right ear, it starts again. And it's really uncomfortable, like it just tickels in a really bad way

i felt sensations that are hard to explain since i was a kid. and i had to figure out what types of stuff triggered it. when i was a teen and in the early 2000s, i tried searching online but found nothing. i found forum posts of people describing experiencing sensations too and asking what the heck these things are. all said the same thing: it was pleasurable. almost felt like you're high. and then one day ASMR is a thing and finally there's a name to what i've been experiencing.

Tbh whenever I look for ASMR I mainly do it for the kinds of spa things or the special hygiene and health treatments and whatnot that I can-t really afford to do every dang time. I mean, as good as having your ears cleaned is, I doubt you can do it all the time xd same applies to stuff like dentist trips and all that. No reason to go through all those surgical methods irl anyway if you don-t got any cavities and whatnot so just listen to the sound of drills instead.

Didn't John Travolta in grease say he had -chills there multiplying it's electrifying- so it's something we've known about at least for quite a while. I've had this my whole life I always just considered it kind of a euphoric tickle those chills that start in your head and down your spine. Different stimuli and different environments have always triggered it oftentimes when I'm in a state of relaxation or sometimes when I'm excited.

I remember as a child when my mother would vacuum on Saturday before dinner. I would lay down on the sofa and feel a tingling sensation. It was very relaxing and calming. The sensation has remained throughout my life. With the advent of asmr I have discovered other triggers. Today it helps me sleep. My family bordered on disfunctionality and maybe my vacuum trigger was a result of that

There are so many people who think they understand what asmr is but im not sure they do. Its more than just a relaxed or satisfied feeling-its literally waves of contractions in your scalp (and/or spinal region, your hairs standing on end but in a pleasant way (not like watching a scary movie, that locks you in a state of just wanting to sit still and experience it
