Using Video Game Tech to Make Movies

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Director Neill Blomkamp sits down with WIRED to talk about the innovative camera rig his team created for his video game-inspired horror film, Demonic Jaron: This was just absolutely fascinating! I really liked the way how Neill talked us through the process and intricacies of filming in this format. Amazing kudos to the actress (sorry, I forget her name) who had to act her scenes surrounded by cameras with minimal aides and reference points!

making a model of her and then just using motion capture wopuld have achived the same effect? especially as the rendered image is displayed in 2d anyways and the audience has no possibility to change the angle or move around. Then just using cameras within unity to frame the shot.

Funny how life and art are always imitating each other.
High-production video games have been aiming to mimic the visuals of real life to imitate the look and feel of traditional cinematic movies.
Now movies like this are aiming to imitate the look and feel of video games.

Talking about narrative & games, Neil clearly hasn-t yet played a Quantic Dream game like Detroit: Become Human. VR is still way too clunky and restrictive, and definitely not a requirement for interacting with actors.

I really love that in the future we maybe able to do interactions with character in vr experience plus ai that have flexible reply data and can learning, maybe. it can feel like you have go along with them in the story.

When will Hollywood start making good movies again? Gimmicks and CGI don't make good movies. Good writing, good acting do. And there is a short supply of both today.

Just what we need in this time, a horror film with a little bit of science fiction, to help us sleep even less at night. What is the matter with these people?

Imagine going to so much effort only to see your film completely trashed by critics. It was actualy an ok movie. It didn't deserve such a low score in my opinion.

This would be a rendering nightmarrrrreeeeee. I could barely even render a small 3D scene without it taking 12 hours. -. This would take- foooorever

I thought The Mandalorian and Unreal Engine were pushing the boundaries of virtual production but this is just an entirely new level of virtual.
