Q: Is Ben Platt nice?
Opinion Time: I do believe he's a sweetheart on a typical day, but regarding the casting controversy where he said this film wouldn't have happened without him, I think it was just his words that got twisted. Like, I know it's true--he did originate the role of Evan Hansen. He went through the initial readings for it, so he knows Evan because he created the part. I think his words were twisted to make him seem like he was stroking his own ego. I mean, when you're in an argument with someone else, you know what it's like when you want to express something, but it doesn't come out right, so then they take it the wrong way? In my opinion, he truly didn't mean anything by it. I just wish he'd acknowledge, even as a joke, that his daddy may have bought him the film role, but in the end clarify that while he's too old to play Evan, the character that other actors have played was based on his own interpretation. At least, I think that's what he means. I don't know what goes on in that talented mind, but now that the situation has blown over, I think that's what he wanted to say in his -defensive- statement.
