So many good horse movies and some they have missed out. The Man from Snowy River. which i know isnt technically a horse movie but the horse in the movie makes the movie LOL. plus it is one of the closest movies to the book i've read. Pharlap (i think its based on a true Austrailian horse) and the ones listed here. im not a fan of black beauty because it truly is painful to watch (some humans suck) Misty of Chincoteague it's pretty good. War horse was pretty good. and any movie where a child boy or girl. fights all odds to get the horse that no one understands/of their dreams/beats all odds. those are my favorite kinds of horse movies. and books too. Pounding hooves which i read as a young girl about 40 or so years ago.

Well, everyone's list will be different.
Secretariat is my favorite -horse, - but there are definitely movies I would put in over Secretariat the movie. That film is not historically accurate. The movie portrays Secretariat as the savior of Meadow Stable, but he wasn't -- that honor belonged to his champion stablemate Riva Ridge, who always remained Chenery's pet favorite. (The movie Seabiscuit is not historically accurate, either, but I love that film. Well, both are entertainment, not documentaries)
I'd MUCH rather have The Black Stallion, or for that matter The Horse Whisperer, Hidalgo, The Man from Snowy River, and likely some others I am not thinking of, over Secretariat the movie.

I have horse movie that you may consider for your next list, -Hidalgo-
True story of the best long distance race horse in the world and rider. Both were -mixed blood- on mustang and the other half American half Lakota, not your
typical race horse and jockey, but both have more heart and speed than any -pure- blood champion. Excelente movie with Viggo Mortensen, doing stunts scenes, what a rider and actor, also Omar Sharif in one of his last performances. It is a Don't miss horse movie. ENJOY IT

How can you include War Horse and not Black Beauty. War Horse is literally the exact same story as Black Beauty but with a war scene in it.
Boy meets and befriends horse. Through some set of circumstances the boy and horse are separated. The horse goes through multiple owners and along the way meets another horse that it befriends. Along the journey the other horse is worked to death. Eventually the horse and boy reunite. War Horse and Black Beauty are literally the exact same story.

I've actually only ever seen War Horse of these five films (Secretariat and Seabiscuit only in parts, The Mustang sounded interesting though.
War Horse though is the most horrible movie I have ever seen, and watching it made me ashamed to be a human being seeing how horses were treated in WWI.
I rather love Hidalgo which should be on this list in my opinion, and as a kid I've loved The Black Stallion, still do.

As a horse lover it-s not here, the man from snowy river is an amazing horse movie I seen it many times the 1st time I was very smell, it-s a timeless movie every horse lover must see, I don-t like the racing movies because I don-t like racing, it-s barbaric, where the run the heart out of horses then discard them like rubbish.

You don't -break- horses, you befriend them, help them, guide them and teach them. Breaking horses is the cruelest expression I ever hear. I wish the world could move away from the idea that they have to freaking dominate every living thing on this planet to be happy.

War Horse deserves to be on the list, but what about The Black Stallion/Black Stallion Returns? Black Beauty by Warner Bro-s? King of the Wind? Into the West? Misty? Spirit: Stallion of the cimmiron?
Those are all excellent horse movies!

There are great ones on there but personally I find Phar Lap equal to Secretariat and Seabiscuit. I've watched all of them including the other ones on the video above and NOTHING beats Phar Lap, Secretariat and Seabiscuit.

Seabiscuit will always be my favorite. No matter how many times I see it it gets better each time. Secretariat is a very close second for the same reason.

Theres also one movie of a racehorse 'Ruffian' and she had a very sad backstory. I would really like for her movie to be added here: )
