Watch the DUST channel for our complete sci-fi library, feature films, and more I appreciate that DUST is promoting art. We dont often see that in movies. A painting doesnt have to tell a whole story; it can just set a mood, and invite a viewer to ask questions. I think its helpful to watch these movies as if they were paintings. They set up some elements and introduce a few ideas. They are not just short, Hollywood movies with a beginning, middle, and end, standard character development arcs, and happy resolution at the end to ensure mass popularity that justifies some multi-million-dollar production budget. These shorter films can take many more chances. They can show us things that Hollywood will never show us. They can let us ask questions. Another commenter said this movie isnt scifi, just because it has aliens and a magic teleporter. I agree. I think its sci-fi because it uses the lens of another reality to give us another perspective on our own.

OK, fairly interesting, but there were plot holes big enough to shove an elephant through. For one, surely if the routine of the prison service has broken down, the whole of society would be in chaos, too, and yet, when the protagonist does get out, the world looks as if life is carrying on as usual. And why has his mother disappeared And what about the guy who had the strange teleporting device, if that's what it was Why was he trying to get to another prisoner, if not to help him escape If so, what was wrong with liberating someone else on the way It seems to me someone came up with a very good premise, but could have done with twice the length of time just to flesh stuff out a little.

I wish they had explained things better, and maybe gave a little more attention on the Alien thing, in the sky.
Also, it kinda made me think at the end, why did they shut his water an electric off, and stop feeding him The way his momma was talking, it was chaos outside! and she was trying to get a ride with her brother to the jail. it sure didn't look like chaos to me. It looked actually very peaceful. I would have been mad as hell! If that were MY son who was locked up, and he was in solitary, with NO food, NO water, or electric. if I had to walk, hitch hike, or crawl, I'd make damn sure to find my way to him!

So many of these Dust stories are just too damn short. They don't even qualify as a short film. Barely a scene. Short movies still have all the same elements a long movie does: plot, character development, conclusion. Just in shorter format. These are like an opening scene to a regular movie, then they ran out of money and they just abruptly stopped the film. They are not fully fleshed out ideas.

Unrealistic that a con in solitary would have a cell phone, or that he would keep it in a top pocket of a jump suit. And no flat screen TV. Prison TVs have a transparent housing. He also wouldn't throw away meat, potatoes, fruit & veggies and just settle for ramen noodles.
reply

I was worried that he'd get hit by a truck or bus crossing the street, as a sign that he wasn't supposed to be in that place at that time. Glad he got out alive. I'm also pretty sure he wouldn't leave the other guy in there for long because his buddy was next door.

I'm used to dust videos having odd endings but the rest of it usually makes sense but not with this video. Is the person with the gadget related to the object in the sky If he can't help the prisoner why did he show up in the cell more than once
reply

Okay I don't understand why the prison was abandoned It looks like the world is running like normal on the outside. Also what a d-bag, dude knows everyone in that prison is starving to death or already dead and doesn't even think twice
reply

I’ve been in prison multiple times and this was always my worst fear inside that’s something would happen on the outside mabey zombie apocalypse or something and that I’ll be stuck in my cell forever and starve to death lol
reply

My interpretation: He was guilty of murder but really wanted to be released and knew he never would so a mysterious benevolent force released him from prison and made an innocent peraon take his place.

I love it for everything
Ut with autism we can only handle short films. Love from Australia. But don't make them soo bloody dark were we can't make out what is happening
I am only on phone

reply

TV's with see thru covering so nothing can be hidden inside ordered thru a catalog direct from the factory. Been that way years in California pens. Obvious not in county or city lockups.
reply

This is DumbAF. The COs were obviously gone, and someone's family is going to be coming in letting people out, if not all their family. Horrible understanding of what it's really like.
reply

Its always so funny how they always show the character reading or studying or trying to better themselves and after finish watching, looking outside and reality hits like a brick
reply

I am assuming dude went inside to get a shower, change of clothes and meal before heading right back to the prison to get the guy he left in his cell out and give him his stick back.
reply

Normally a short piece of art music, film, story, whatever leaves the viewer with SOMETHING on which to build. This whatever-it-is just leaves you with short. TYVFM.
reply

I think the meaning is once built, no matter the circumstance a cell will never be empty. For those outside what we’re trying to escape from it is a privilege for those inside.
reply

When this virus is killing all, almost all the people and it will do this, they will leave the crims inside, especially the really bad ones, they will starve to death.
reply

Do today's writers have any concept of a Story having a Beginning, and middle and an ending Just making some obscure statement just won't hack it. Boring waste of time.
reply

the audio is terrible, I understand what voices used to sound like with bad connection so you can tell they are talking on the phone, but that part in unintelligable
reply

These dust short films kick the crud out of anything I've seen out of Hollywood in over a decade. These would be great films, TV series tend to veer out into left field.
reply

Could have been better if the last sequence did suddenly turn up to be his own creation and he was in his cell in reality. But that is only since I am so dark. :-)
reply

Is it just me or does everything on DUST feel like a movie pitch Like they're just doing a proof-of-concept video to hook someone into making a full movie
reply

For societal order to be breaking down to the extent that prisoners are left to starve to death, traffic seems to be moving in a nice orderly manner.
reply

Fck’d up. The day the extras arrive, the law’s only gonna be focused on the them, and earth’s prisoners are only gonna rotting in their cells
reply

Was the mom played by one of those people who just feeds lines to actors instead of actually acting I got more emotion out of an ear of corn.
reply

How do poor plots get filmed No phones in jail, didn't change out of suit, bored.
I like suspending reality but intelligence

reply

she says, people are going in there, taking stuff. yeah how were they getting in to a ship floating 30 story's above the ground
reply

What an interesting short film. Real food for thought. That eternal debate of if prison is the answer, what was the question
reply

Agonizing purposelessness. Not my favorite kind of science fiction. This didn't even have a clever twist to the story.
reply

Point at which I stopped watching, the weird black dude licking the empty ramen container. Hard pass.
reply

These videos are not that good. They are like little segments from all other movies nothing new.
reply

I need 1 of those transport stick thingyz right about (abooot if you're from Canada) now!
reply

I used to think about what would happen if a disaster took all the guards left the inmates
reply

I did not understand anything. Put more creativity in these shorts, or nobody will see them!
