Is the gaming world ready for an all streaming future?

Streaming and downloads are the way of the future. But are we really ready for it? Let's talk Lyle: I can definitely offer some insight, I hope it's useful. I've been using Nvidea GeForce Now for a few months now. It works as advertised to a point. It does buff older model computers to be able to play games they otherwise couldn't. But as stated in the video it does require a high internet speed just to play games at 1080p. I have a high internet speed, more than I should need for this program. Unfortunately this brings in the problem, which is international players. For GeForce now specifically their servers and remote pc's are located in the States. I'm from Canada. I've tested numerous different games in a bunch of different genres and although playable it's very difficult to see the program as worth while in it'c current form, especially for games that need all the visual clarity they can get like first person shooters. North America in general has atrocious internet especially considering we're supposed to be at the forefront of technological advancement and on average we have one of the largest online populations. So my answer is that yes the technology is ready for this type of gaming to be offered but no to the gaming population being ready to utilize these services. Not until we see either the monopoly let by ISP's or they decide to provide an exponentially better connection.

I live in Canada, and I get pretty amazing internet here. I've got internet 150 from Shaw which is 150 Mbps internet. (Though I, unfortunately, live upstairs from the router, which means I'm not able to be hooked up wireless so I'm not getting NEARLY as good connection on my PC (I tend to get around maybe 50 Mbps on average.) And NOT EVEN CLOSE to that on my new 500 GB PS4 I just got last month. The wi-fi on the original PS4 is pretty subpar. Maybe around 25 Mbps internet. So far it's been pretty good for online gaming, not great, but passable overal. But it's NOT perfect for PS Now. I had a 7 day trial to test it out and while I got decent performance a lot of the time, I'd get dips that caused lag every now and then that would cause the whole experience to feel way worse. But there's no issues with blurriness for me that I can remember noticing. If I had a wired connection, I'm fairly certain I'd probably be able to stream the games pretty close to perfect. And the internet speed in my town has DOUBLED recently too. Now they offer 300 Mbps internet. It's not even that much more expensive that what I'm paying for now, at least not for the first 2 years anyway. If I lived alone i'd have considered getting it possibly.

I'd had PS Now for over a year and a half and I think it's one of greatest things to happen to video games (been a gamer for 29yrs now). I see people complain about lag, ok sorry to hear your internet sucks. Luckily I live in a city where I get good reception. Never had to deal with crappy graphics playing God of War 3 or The Last of Us.
People say they want physical copies of their games to play whenever, ok fine, no one is stopping you from buying new or old games. Streaming is just an extra service. Netflix doesn't get the latest movies right away, you go to the theater, so why expect gaming streaming services to do the same. There is nowhere out there where within seconds I have like 400+ games to play or try, it's unbelievable to even try to imagine I would have ever had access to all these games otherwise.
I just hate people bring PS Now down mainly because their internet sucks.
Also regarding price, I wait for the yearly subscription of $100. Comes down to like $8 a month, and that's cheap people.

Is this the future? Games that require access, and constant maintenance, as well as gaming surveilliance? Whatever happened to owning and collecting the experience of a game, a finished and polished one? this suggests that now it is only solvent for shareholders and businessman to passively extract income from players, control and bar access at will instead of purchasing something and let it be the end of it. It speaks of a system which also turns games into expendables which you access, pay to play, and then forget. I foresee many issues coming from companies which have flourished in providing glitchy games which justifies them feeding their greed. I am not going to pay for consoles which force me to pay for it, their software, access to their software, their maintenance due to their mediocre product, not daily, not monthly, not yearly, not ever. Boycott that, I'm going back to board games, sports, and D&D, for I can surely make real life much better than such virtual, time consuming vampire.

I like the idea of game streaming and I think it will bring great advantages. Only two things are key to me:
1. It needs to be still possible to download the titles you want to play (both PS Now and Xbox Game Pass allow it) so not to be tied to a broadband connection if you don-t have one (for example on vacation), if you have trouble with it, if you just want to play the offline mode and not to sacrifice graphics / performance. That-s why I think a physical box with an HDD is still necessary (for those who want to be able to download games).
2. Leaderboards should be device-related. It would be great to play COD on an home console then pick it up on a tablet or smartphone, but your performance would be much different then when on a console or PC. I fully support cross-play between all platforms and devices, but leaderboards and rankings should be related to a specific device type (consoles, mobile devices, PC/Mac).

I use GeForce Now everyday. I have an iMac because I-m a musician, but I love PC gaming as well, and we all know that games and Macs do not go together. So I signed up for GeForce Now, got in, and it-s... cool? I mean don-t get me wrong, it-s amazing when my internet is working right, Overwatch, Destiny 2, Fortnite, you name it - I-m playing on the highest setting with damn near no latency, and then, it happens. Blurred screen, input lag, sound screwing up, and so on for like 30 seconds all the way to 5 minutes, and then it just stops and goes back to normal. Plus there-s a limit on how long you can play before you have to reset your game, which is annoying. So for the most part I can play Overwatch or whatever for hours with settings I-d never dream of on console, but those couple minutes of lag really can be game changing in competitive stuff which is really annoying

I am taking part in the GeForce NOW beta. Waiting list is pretty long, I got my access recently and submitted for it end of January.
It only allows you to play games they have availible in their library (they keep adding new ones) and you are required to log into your Steam account. You can only play games you own on steam obviously. I think it works pretty decent, tried it on both my regular rig and potato pc powered by coal. You do need good, fast connection for it but I did not experience any lags in games I played till now.

I have used PSNow but $20 a month is a bit outrageous unless you have a month to do nothing but play games, but there is an exploit with the resting the 7 day free trial lol, but I have around 150mb/s internet after moving from a house with 3mb/s and it-s heaven like wow, but with my internet even when it goes down to 60 PSNow works really well, I-m trying to platinum Batman Arkham origins because trophies transfer now which is awesome

I can see why an all stream service would be very convenient! But still, I will miss not owning physical copies of games. Staring at my shelf with all of my games, knowing that my collection will stop expanding when streaming services will become the main thing... It's a bit sad. The cases are a part of my room decoration -.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

My internet connection speed in Italy is 76.74 Mbps in Download and 19.28 Mbps in Upload , and i live in south italy. Internet connection in already capable to stream games very well without input lag. I think this game streaming is the future of gaming, no more piracy, you get only what you want, whitout the need to spend so much money in expensive hardware...
