Playstation All Stars: Speaking as an animator who worked on the game, believe me you are preaching to the choir. Everyone at Superbot also wanted all those characters. Wanting them badly and being able to get them were too different things since they were owned by other studios, who often had their own agendas ('oh we don't want our IP in that kind of game', 'you can use her but you can only use the model from the latest less popular game', 'Sure you can have him! for 5 mil', etc. Crash not being there was especially irritating for us and we kept hoping we'd be able to get him for a reasonable price in free DLC at least but they never could work out a deal. He and Spyro were owned by Activision at the time. so. now. Microsoft!
Some of the design choices were made to differentiate the game from Smash Bros. We had hoped it'd sell well enough to iron out some of the flaws in a sequel. keep in mind it took Smash Bros awhile to get good. And anybody ever play Street Fight 1? Yeah right

Mad Max could have been so much more - simply have an endless means of customising the perfect desert buggy with whatever you found, fixed, begged, borrowed, stole and crafted around the world rather than the preset 5 stages per car part of upgrades would have been a great start in giving you a sense of connection to the land and how necessary your vehicle was to survival and the other sore point for me was feeling that areas to explore were copy - pasted 2 minute & 25 seconds of driving between each other between the main hub areas. that also didnt help the vibe (that seems to be an open world issue I groan at 9/10 when playing open world games now, nothing feels organic or has its own story for being in the world other than pasted. Mad Max, an ok game that could have been great.

I see FF XV, I click. and get a tinge defensive when I see it on lists, as I overall do like the game I know it has its issues, but it's like someone making fun of your sibling or your country, versus you doing the same. Fine when you do it, because you still have love in your heart, but you're ready to throw hands when someone else does it
Odd analogy, but we who are fans dealt for years with the derriding of the game by those who didn't even like what was given, which I still feel is a decent game. We lament what wasn't given but still enjoy what was.
Edit: I'm happy to see Falcon shares the same sentiment

Minecraft but not in the way you would think, like its running for years but imo it could have been much bigger, iknow its a sand box game but give us more lore or story progression or better updates bcuz its all funny we have mangrove but i still havent seen it. Yes its a masterpiece of a game but i just think that in the next years we need to get something big, something game changing lore or story wise, bcuz we already have godly terrain like with caves and cliffs but it still has lore and some sort of a story but after years almost nothing has happened to it. (i love minecraft and play atleast every month)

At the time of Splinter Cell Conviction's development cycle, there _was_ a planned modern day Assassin's Creed. Originally, AC was going to be a trilogy, with Desmond taking the lead in AC3. But Ubi wanted to milk Ezio, so AC3 was delayed, and AC2 was split in half (that second half being Brotherhood. At that point, Jade Raymond left the company, and the plan for a modern day AC was dropped; but the altered Conviction had already been released, so players missed out on _two_ modern day assassin games so that Ubisoft could milk Ezio.

For episode 3:
- Shadow The Hedgehog - The idea to make a game about Shadow was really good. He is a fan favorite in the Sonic community and has more depth than most Sonic characters. if it was a little bit more like Sonic Adventure 2 and without the guns and overly edgy writing, it could have been a hit
- Recore - It has some cool ideas, definitelly could use a sequel to expand them.
- Yooka Layee - It had more minigames(which weren't fun) than 3d platforming

Conviction was phenomenal and pretty well received, I m not really sure this needs to be on the list.
The mark and execute feature and co op were outstanding.
Also pretty sure Crash bandicoot was because they didn t have the rights to him anymore. In fact I think they never actually owned Crash, just the publishing rights for the main games.
Probably should do more research before making these lists.

Just watched part 1 and I have to say why did you not include Cyberpunk 2077 in either list? What was promised and what was delivered were wildly different games. It could have been a really deep, gritty, meaty RPG but what we got was a mediocre open world action game (and that's after all the patches. There are glimpses. The world is there. It was ready for something very cool. But that's not at all what we got.

MGS5 is an amazing game if you don't care for the story. I didn't an thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay. The variety of options, the adaptability, the user-friendliness made the game an absolute blast, but I skipped through all the cutscenes. My only gripe was the forced online integration that resulted in me losing my best fob staff because I kept getting raided after I stopped playing for a few months.

Redfall isn t Dishonored or Prey. Technically it isn t anything Arkane is known for and you re right, Arkane and two other studios didn t want this project. It was a Bethesda money grab while things were slow to get them to Starfield. Todd Howard doesn t care about making great games that actually function like they were envisioned to. I ll be shocked if Starfield doesn t crash on day one.

Open world games are only as played out as each game s story. I remember when there were only a handful. It sucked. The only criticism I ever have of open world games is not having anything to do AFTER the story. It s such a spoiled, 2023 thing to say, but if I like the core game I m gonna need some side quests and radiant quests so I get to keep living in this word you ve created.

ffxv has some mechanics that really need to become mainstream in open world rpgs
like leveling up after you take rest rather than automatically leveling after defeating a monster like in other games
follower ai and their interactions
eating food gives you stat boosts instead of health
charecter model keeps getting filthy unless u rest in a hotel with bathroom

Fable 3 used to be a guilty pleasure game for me. I think it's a bad fable game, but it was an awesome landlord simulator. My biggest problem with it is that it only has 5 save slots, and if you're playing on the xbox one or series x, there's really no way to delete those files and start over. Which sucks, but there's nothing i can do about it.

Callisto Protocol. Great aesthetic and presentation, but not nearly enough variety. The game's premise could've easily included human enemy types (prison guards, prisoners) throughout the game but didn't. This also would've made the story less boilerplate. Also different melee weapons, or for that matter, making the different guns ACTUALLY DIFFERENT.

The thing about mgs5 that no one talks about is it was already long, if that was 2 chapters out of 5, then the game was just too long anyway.
Even early in the game the game was already repeating certain bases for unrelated missions in a way that made no sense.
I think it should not have been open world in the first place, just big maps.

I will defend Dragon Age 2 as my favorite of the series, but there is an outside factor. It came out a few weeks after my mother passed away. If there was a time in my life that I needed to get lost in a narrative and ignore the real world, it was then. So for all of its flaws, it succeeded in doing what I needed it to do, when I needed it to.

Feel like while I agree DA2 was disappointing it is for a different reason. I enjoyed the story, the lore, characters, etc. I hayed the copy and paste levels and how every side quest was just going through a smaller section of a main quest area. It is the same issue i have with the Nioh games, but with a better story and lore.

Idk how you can mess up Dante's Inferno so badly when the dude literally designed the levels for you in the book itself. There could of even been more levels added if the developers had also added Purgatorio and Paradiso. I mean, clearly those developers had never even read the actual works of Dante, so it's all a moot point.

Honestly still don't get why people expected anything from Redfall.
Always thought it sounded horrible the moment it got announced, and any news about the game afterwards.
Everything felt so not Arkane.
Like Anthem and Bioware, they ended up working on the type of games that don't match with their strengths.
