Tried empyrion and it felt extremely boring despite having a ton of stuff available to do. Vintage story looks like someone copied minecraft code and added some mods to make survival harder, it's a common thing to have weather and temp changes in modded servers, so that's also not surprising.
I'm surprised that space engineers isn't on this list, despite lacking a lot, as a sandbox/survival game it really ticks a lot of boxes that allow you to be extremely creative.
The rest were pretty good recommendations, though I do think some of them, like astroneer and planet crafter, do get a lot of attention.

If you haven t played V Rising since the massive new Gloomrot Edition then please do! I can t recommend it enough! The developers not only listened to their player base, but rebalanced the game entirely making it easier to solo. It is possible to build multi tier castles up to six levels if you want, add gems to spells to give them an added boost, and made weapons all the more stronger to give you that much of an edge in a fight. There are tons more bosses that add a fun new touch to the gameplay.

Conan Exiles is always ignored. It's never talked about. SCUM, Astroneer and V Rising are all pretty popular and considered games among people who play survival games. Conan is often ignored entirely because of it's horrible launch. It suffers the same issues every one of these other games do with exploits/hackers and bugs. Not a single survival game exists without them. These issues aside, it has the best and most developed building system.

SCUM honestly is fun, but it's also a big mess.
Their new hunting mechanic is really just odd and I wish they didn't add it as now hunting is imo not fun.
The updates that come out now n then are questionable aswell, many are good yes, but not exactly what's currently needed.
Seems the main issues with scum is just being constantly pushed back.
Still a good game, waiting to see the game more Finished

The issue when you make your survival game forced PvP and or without a PvE draw then the only systems which matter are the base defense building, the shooting, and things which help those two. This is why Rust is successful and what Fortnite was able to distill down into its most marketable formula. In such games mechanics like Scum's nutrition system are just cumbersome.

Was looking for an open-world base crafting game last Steam Sale and I saw Planet Crafter. Yep, it's well-worth the money and it has good lore as well! Only thing that irks me with this is that you really can't find really spacious grounds so you would need to settle for floating living quarters and buildings.
All in all, it's good.

I don't think you portrayed V Rising properly at all. The pvp mode and the holding of the three main powers in late game. PLus the magic skills. You only showed the sword swinging. Lots of diff weapons and styles too and classes you drain from the humans you capture. I thought it was the best survival online pvp/pve game ever.

SCUM is my jam. I love the single player and the multilayer. It's nice that you can customize the offline and online servers to have more or no zombies, more or no mechs etc etc. Really great hunting mechanic. My current offline single player server is set up as a hunting sim. No soldiers or zombies. Just lots of predator animals

I'd also add far cry primal tbh it's really fun, even though it's not the biggest survival game, you still need to collect resources to have weapons and stuff to defend yourself, not to mention the amount of dangerous animals there are, and for those who want a real challenge, you can play on Permadeath or whatever it's called.

Darkwood belongs on every list of the greatest survival horror games. One of the most relentlessly unnerving and terrifyingly hypnotic games Ive ever played. Theres something about it that makes you want to keep pushing despite all of the odds stacked against you. (Btw, don't stop after the ending. )

V Rising is by Stunlock Studios. They have a history of mismanaging and abandoning their games in favor of something new. They abandoned Battlerite for Battlerite Royale, and dumped both for V Rising. Given the pattern, they'll probably abandon this game at some point. Just something to be aware of.

I have scum. It's very indepth and complex the metabolism aspect is the most complicated I've ever seen to the point you have to keep on top of even individual vitamins and minerals. It's fun otherwise tho. Avoid the robots tho they will break you in half better to stealth around them

Given that most of these games are on PC, I m not surprised they re ignored. PC community likes to play itself off like it s a thriving growing ecosystem, when in truth, it s an ever shrinking base
With that being said, I hope those playing these games are having fun with them

I'd include Stranded Deep in this list, by no means the deepest or most ingenious survival game but its very good in its simplicity. Good entry point to the genre too, has a clear goal, systems aren't insanely complex but there's enough there and looks pretty decent too

S. C. U. M. Is probably the most popular survival game amongst peopleI follow on Twitch so I m surprised to see it on the list. The same streamers played The Forest 2 for about a week after it came out but always go back to S. C. U. M. So I think it s pretty popular.

I remember when Darkwood was in early access. The devs seeded it out to torrent sites themselves, and said, please buy it if you like it, or when you can afford it. which has always been my purpose in such sites anyway, since we've long passed the demo disc.

Been playing SCUM since 2018 (over 1000hrs) and have never been on a server single player only. With the 0. 9 update that released last week it's starting to get fleshed out for quests to be added in. Would highly recommend this game to anyone.

V Rising is one of the best co op games, a must play. I'd add Icarus to this list. It was really good fun, great graphics and the developers added permanent maps and are working on adding their unique mission system to those permanent maps.
