These bad guys are all very bad, but some have moments in their stories where we can feel for them. Lets talk about some complex video game villains Roman: Vergil from DMC5, he's power hungry with a thirst for revenge against mankind because he was -abandoned- as a child (except he wasn't, his mother actually tried looking for him during the attack but she died before she could find him, separating the twins). Vergil's thirst for power comes because he wasn't able to protect himself as a child, and feels that if he can defeat dante, he would be worthy of his late parent's love. All because as children, dante was on the right place at the right time, and vergil wasn't.
Vergil even asks himself what would happen had they been in the other side (vergil being saved and dante being forgotten).
Nero is exactly what Vergil would've been had he had someone to love, because Vergil wants power to protect himself and overcome his insecurities, and Nero has the same ambition, but it's to protect the family he loves.

A villain that i fell bad for is forseti from Valkyria Chronicles 4.
-spoiler warning-
He sacrifices everything for doing the right thing, avoid a kind of nuclear desaster, and save the life of the girls that powered this nuclear explosion.
But at the end, he doesn't only fails at saving the girls, but his choices leads to multiple inocents deaths, loosing the trust of his childhood friends and meeting his end at the hands of his own sister.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a long game, and pretty story heavy, so when the forseti's motives are revealed, hits hard, specialy for the consequences of it.

Yotsuyu from FFXIV. She is vile, and horrible. And the story does a lot to humanize her, she is abused by her parents and used as a tool by pretty much everyone around her and it turns her cruel. Then the game throws a curve ball after you beat her. She has a dissociative break and reverts to a childlike state for most of the expansion. Giving you hope she might be redeemed only to be manipulated into becoming the primal Tsukuyomi. Where you relive her torment in the boss battle.

If you do another one of these then another good one for this list would be Karen Travers in Scarlet Nexus. Dude does a lot of bad shit and ultimately ruins things more and more while he tries to fix his mistakes by going through time. He ultimately just opts to end his own existence in order to solve the problem entirely, which is literally himself and the fact he exists in any timeline after all hes done.

Good list, though I feel the Child from Othercide should be here. those who have played it know how tragic the backstory is and honestly it was such a long and emotional journey making it up to that boss fight, and really all but one boss in the game I've felt sorry for taking down but the child was the one who's cutscene made me tear up a little.

1:12 Calamity Raven from Valkyria chronicles 3. Imagine Letho........but it's a entire squad. The closest equivalent I could make would be, Calamity Raven is like a group consisting of only Jewish soldiers, working for the nazi's in order to secure a place and a home for their people, it's PRETTY messed up. Which makes fighting them very hard.

Another thing about Logan from Fable 3 is that he was preparing Albion for the Crawler in Aurora. When you become the ruler you can even follow his footsteps and pursue industrial advances for financial benefit and break all your promises to the people (but they don't die)

What, no Dagoth Ur (Morrowind)? I mean there are at least 2 big quest mods (-Sixth House- and -Great house Dagoth- that let you actually join him.
Also the bad guy from Shadowrun: Dragonfall. Director's cut even adds an option to join him and see what happens.

General tulius is not a fair addition as he is not really a villain. i have always sided with the empire due to the fact that they have always seemed to be the rightful governor of all of tamriel(in my opinion due to the thousands of years they have been in power.)

In general, for the characters of these stories can be summed up with the phrases, -when you dance with the devil, the devil doesn't change...- and -take great care when hunting monsters. Lest ye become that which is hunted.-
