What about the Golden Chocobo. I know it isn't as elaborate, but that was the first time I really got pulled in to an insane quest to get an item that you didn't even need to get to win a game. I think it fits, and was one of the older examples. No clues, no hints, just mess around until you figure it out. Then once you got it... where do you go, and why?

Becoming the Beast in GTA5. I still haven't finished it. You have to eat 7 golden peyote then track the Beast. Triggering a fight is itself a trick, then you have to win the fight, as Bigfoot. You do unlock the Beast for use in director mode so it's worth all the effort

Personally, I find starting a kickstarter for a crazy simple and basic game, earning tens of thousands for that game, then making your fan base go on a bat shit crazy scavenger hunt just to hide it inside of a different game property is unbelievably shady practice.

I play games for fun...This doesn't look fun. Once I see the vid ...It becomes an even bigger waste of time...It seems more fun to clear leaves in the backyard...Than replay FEAR for the 1000 time...lol
