yeah FF has not been a FF game since like XI, 12 and 14. I have not even bought these action variants, the fact is. its just not the game i want to play, so i buy another company's product. If I wanted to play action games i would, i play turn based and menu driven games because thats what i like, FF has sadly moved away from this genre of games. It was THE defining game for me, I played FF1 and many forward from there, no son is named Cecil for the main in FF2(na. I played XI for 10 years and over 1. 5YEARS of game play. I married my wife who i met in FFXI. I have OG blm figure, backlit wall decoration and sticker on my vehicle. IT would be safe to say the OG ff games are some of my fave. the worst part is, they have run action FF's along side FFjrpg since the first ones, they have gameboy action ff and also turn based, they CAN make both games, but it seems like they have drops the main line and just left the sidebar action one some of us dont want to play: ( If i wanted to play action i would just play monster hunter. oh well. cest le vie

Expectations are so crucial for this game. For a lot of older final fantasy fans, it's pretty different. I would argue that final fantasy has always been a franchise that switches things up, but that's a different conversation. If you don't really like what you see or are on the fence, I don't blame anyone for not wanting to gouge $70 out of their wallet
That being said, being a pretty new final fantasy fan having really hit my stride with 14 and 7R, then going back in time to play others; This game truly felt like everything they promised, and everything I wanted it to be and more. I honestly can't think of anything about the game that straight out contradicts what was promised to us during interviews, trailers, panels, ect. Some may not love the story, it's not my favorite but I think it's good, but really, you have to know what you're getting into. Because personally, it was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. I won't say which ones, but three big boss fights in a row kept being my new favorite boss fight in any game ever

Honestly, that hybrid model they've been trying to make never quite worked out. Didn't work in all 3 ff13 games, didn't really click in ff15 and honestly, wasn't that good in ff7 remakes either.
if you're doing a turn based rpg, do that. Persona 5 did it fantastically. if you're doing a action rpg, do that. SE has to stop trying to reinvent the wheel with every game they make.
This is exactly what went wrong originally with ff14, when they just did their own thing and did not even acknowledge and learn from the top MMOs of that time. Yoshi P changed that, and his influence is clearly felt here too.
Maybe it's not perfect, because it's probably something they've not done before. But I think it's a good direction. SE has been mediocre for a long, long time, and we're now in an age when the competition from small studios and indie devs is too high. FF16 HAD to be something different.

no matter how good the game is, as long as they selling this as FINAL FANTASY it would always be a disappointment tbh. They are so lost and cling to the FF fame for selling this as FF. It's not even about the combat keep changing, it just don't have any ff feels at all, if you show ff16 video to people they won't think this is FF game, if you show clips of dragon quest game you would know this is dq game, same with yakuza, smt/persona series or YS series if you know about this game. The combat might change but their core shouldn't be. No matter how the combat/lvling changing but the core of RPG shouldn't be gone.

The settings on the demo went haywire and kept defaulting back to Low and FSR1 when I messed around with a few settings. I think VRS toggle caused this to happen. It also does not display ultrawide correctly, displaying black bars like Elden Ring. Maybe the PS5 Pro will finally be able to run this correctly. I the base PS5 version that I own had a horrendously ugly performance mode and I stopped playing hoping that would be improved via update or a better version that runs and displays properly was released. The search continues.

Lot of people having trouble running the game. It runs great if your PC can handle it. DLSS and Frame gen work well and don't make the game look bad. It's a good PC port!
And people that don't like the gameplay should give it a chance, the start is pretty bare when it comes to combat but unlocking new Ekons, once you have three in your arsenal the combat get's so much better! (Though it get's better after unlocking the second ekon in my opinion)

What game takes 20 minutes before you get the settings set up!
What I would really like to see is that, once you start a game, any time you start it later on, just skip the menus and load the latest save. If I need the main menu, I can just get to it after loading the save. It's not like that happens often. There would be some complexities (e. g. if you just crashed, go through the settings again) but mostly, just load the game, not the menu.

I have had nothing but performance issues with this port. I must be in the minority on this one but I got constant stuttering and cutscenes dropping to low teens in FPS was terrible. I have heard there is a mod that might be able to help alleviate this, but I will wait and maybe SE will fix some of it. I have returned it for now. 3080 TI / 129000k Not the latest and greatest, but should be able to chug along with cutscenes at 30FPS at 4k.

I freaking LOVE this game - I don’t mind at all that it’s not turn-based. The combat once you unlock some stuff is really enjoyable. I also really like that it’s more linear and not full open world. Great experience. The score is maybe the best score I have ever heard in a game. Runs beautifully on my desktop but surprisingly runs well on my ROG Ally. Cinematics chug a bit on Ally but game runs well. LOVE IT.

i was one of those people on the negative camp because i just didn't get the things that i loved about a classic final fantasy rpg with this game. and while i still hold those opinions to be true, it wasn't until i shifted my perception that this is not an rpg but an action game that i was able to finally appreciate it. it's not the ff game that i wanted, but as a game by itself, it's a good one.

Almost 200 hours in this game personally. It is so worth the play, it's possibly #1 for me. My only gripe is that it is pretty slow to start, but once the combat clicks it is so amazing. Not to mention the performances and story (outside of the generic jrpg stuff that shows up, the MUSIC goddamn go listen to Eikonoklasm what a banger.
I love this game and it is absolutely worth a play.

In my honest opinion, this is one of the best games I have ever played. I understand why some Final Fantasy fans aren't used to this type of game but the quality is EXTREMELY high and the story is incredible. It continues to ramp up from start to finish and for me the combat is endlessly fun. It manages to balance challenge while still making you feel like a god. excited to play this on PC soon

Got bored halfway through. never finished. What is the point in its crafting system, and useless pick ups. Its visually awesome, but wow I was bored of the do the same combos over and over. Dont bother exploring, theres nothing worth finding outside of side quests sending you there, and that is the only reason to go to any other part of the map the main story doesnt tell you to go.

The PC port is NOT good on this game. I've got 2 systems that are mid-higher end (3070, 4070 SUPER, 13700K CPU) and it runs like absolute garbage at 1440p. I can run Cyberpunk with DLSS and Ray Tracing enabled on both with consistent 60-100 FPS. I can't get more than 45 FPS consistently in FF on either with DLSS and Medium settings at 1440p. Often it dips into 20's FPS.

I like the game, but the only problem I have is lagging issue. I can play games that are more demanding than FF16, and FF16 still lags especially at areas that has a lot of props/objects. Have to play on Low settings, but even Cyberpunk can run at Ultra with 10 more fps than FF16. Thankfully, we got the 60fps mod but would love if the dev themselves fix the problems

Gee. It's almost as if developing for one platform, which is not only easier, but cost-effective, the developers are able to bring out the most potential of said platform. As opposed to if FFXVI was a simultaneous multiplatform release, it would've likely resulted in a less than optimal one, which is putting it lightly in most cases. Exclusivity has its benefits.

Thank you for addressing the elephant! I have thought about it barely being an RPG since I've played through it twice. I'm afraid I will piss off my community alone saying this, but in my heart it's always been there. That being said, it holds a hard 2nd place as my favorite ff game. Might be cliche but vii, vii rebirth/remake is always going to be #1

Honestly my only complaint with this game is it’s almost too easybut loving it. Anyone who says oh this isn’t like the old final fantasy’s well no shit. Square has been going away from TB combat since 15 and they have been extremely upfront about it. If you want this game but in turn based combat go play triangle strategy (also a great game)

Boss fights are the highlights for sure, but the grind to get to them can be a little tedious. I've struggled a little with it and thinking about playing something else. The difficulty level also bothered me, I am not an hardcore gamer but didn't find the enemies very challenging, maybe even too easy most of the times, bosses can be tough though.

my rtx 3060 struggles a little bit with the game, but it is also weaker than the recommended gpu (my gpu is weaker than the ps5 one i think, rip, so i understand that it's my fault probably. i run the game stable but only at about 30fps. im upgrading to an rx 7800 xt next week and i expect a nice performance boost from that
