I think Maleania is truly the most unfair boss of Elden Ring simply because of her mechanics. She heals on hitting something which no other boss does while having zero counters to it. I don't mind she can heal, that does add another layer of difficulty. I mind she heals through blocks and from hitting summons. There honestly should have been a physick that either stops her from healing or drastically cuts it down.
Also one of the most frustratingly unfair bosses has got to be Laxasia from Lies of P, Black Rabbit Brotherhood is another that is really unfair. The first form of Laxasia is alright. The second form is complete BS. She jumps into the air for like 30 seconds while throwing extremely damaging near undodgable projectiles then comes crashing down where to teleports all over the place. I beat her 3 times and it was by pure luck each time. The BRB fights were just unfair. The first one had honestly a ridiculous difficulty spike from me but it was manageable with the right set up. The second fight was just a headache since you're outnumbered the entire fight. With the right setup it wasn't that bad but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Laxasia was way harder.

Rufus was sooo fuuun he’s always forcing you to figure him out and tweak your materia just right, especially since it is a tighter battle being a 1-vs-1 (Chakra materia is one of your best friends here! among others.
And I never used countering against him. I noticed he always reloads (leaving him vulnerable, using Assess materia on him gives you that particular nugget of info) after his Guns Akimbo move in his first phase. Until then, you can just utilize your block until the moment is right, then POUNCE!
You don’t have to change too much in phase 2, but moments where he reloads changes slightly and he just has more moves to dodge. You can just ignore Darkstar. In fact, he kinda makes it easier because now you have something else to attack to gain ATB since Rufus will just counter your attacks (albeit something else to dodge as well.
There is so much speed and reflex required for the battle it was an amazing rush!

The difficulty of the Godskin fights can vary a lot depending on your build, though that's true for several boss fights. I had a Dex/Arcane build during my first three play throughs so I was able to do significant damage to their health and I didn't need sleep items or summons, but the version of the Noble in the Spiritcaller Cave gave me a lot of trouble because he is immune to bleeds (being a spirit) and there are no pillars to block his fat rolling. I had to learn to dodge it which can be difficult since his hit boxes aren't the easiest to ascertain. What's really annoying is that you can stun him out of the fatroll but as soon as he recovers he jumps right back into it so you're not shortening its length or being given much opportunity to punish.

Matriach, what an absolutely terrible boss design. 100% trash. My brother doesn't play video games so he plays on easy mode. I beat Gears 5 and forgot about this boss. He was having trouble so I jumped in to assist. And I forgot how awful and long this fight was. This fight truly sticks out on this list for me. Even on easy, this mf is still long.
I found the godskin duo fight easy. The game was made with npc summons in mind so f it. I summoned away towards thr end game because solo is impossible I feel at that point lol
And any developer who create a boss with gank squads and teleportation need to go f themselves.

You know, the first ten times I died, I would've said Malenia easily fits on this list, however after trying, trying and trying again, she is quite fair and gives players the opportunity to learn her patterns, tells, and even parry windows. Godskin Duo, however, can roast in hell. Also not sure how much changed in the combat for Rebirth, but in Remake abusing the block over trying to dodge is the better play. Dodge is there to get you to think this is a Soul's or DMC style fighter, and it isn't
Also I'd add Cyber Akuma from MSH Vs SF on PS1

When thinking of unfair, the Dahaka from Prince Of Persia comes to mind. His attacks can range from 5% to 90% of your health (depending on the difficulty, and he has a move where he shoots tentacles out of the ground, on completely random places. Dodging them feels more like luck than skill. Oh yeah, did I mention he regenerates 70% of his health twice during the battle Dude is a monster. Literally. Only way I ever beat him was either: playing the games on easy mode, or lose 20 times until he's nerved to oblivion.

Capra made me rage quit Dark Souls the first time I played it. Took a year for me to come back to the game with a new character and I didn't have much issue that second time. I genuinely think the boss is there as an early reality check against players that were coasting by with heavy armor and high stability shields and never learned how to dodge. Dark Souls 1 loves to do that, there are also bosses that are WAY easier if you just go full havel's armor and don't even roll at all.

-Elizabeth from P3. No indication that if you reflect, drain or null an attack she instantly KO's you for it, on top of having to beat her in 50 turns.
-Galdera from Octopath. Even with advanced classes, he still makes your characters look like babies.
-Absolute Radiance in Hollow Knight, waiting for you after a 45 battle boss rush.
I agree with the KH fight but I would put Malenia over Duo because I still have ptsd from waterfowl dance and that is after it was nerfed.

The Godskin duo, or any boss in Elden Ring, is only too hard if you chose to make it so. If you chose not to use your spirit summons, if you chose to not use the powerful NPC summons provided right outside the Duo's boss room, if you chose to ignore item buffs etc. I even see people choose to ignore armor (negating %60 of damage isn't useful eh!
Yes I choose to ignore all the major mechanics in a game and play it like it's this other game! Derp why is it so hard!

Go ahead and call me an old man, but I truely don't understand how anyone can look at the FF7: Remake garbage and think that bullet sponge gameplay looks fun, it genuinely looks exhausting.
Gimme the old school turn based combat over action rpg crap any day, I had to force myself to finish Remake because of how restrictive and tedious it felt because of the limitations the stagger gauge imposes on you.

TAKE THIS! IT'S NO USE! TAKE THIS! IT'S NO USE!
I hate unskippable cutscenes. I have this one scene in Tales of Symphonia Dawn of a New World ingrained in my mind because of many failed attempts against a boss. I thought the Zombie status kind of kills you. I think in Final Fantasy 6 I lost a fight even though one of my characters appears to be standing but is zombified.

95% of boss fights are lazy game design. Utilise skills or tactics Nah, just have really fast reflexes and spend ages grinding down a giant health until. it refills it's health bar for phase two of the inevitable 3 phase fight. Boos gain powers during new phases and health but we aren't allowed to do anything new. Lazy game design. There are some great boss fights out there but 95% are lazy garbage.

No clue why people find Rufus difficult (and whoever was playing in that brief bit of gameplay is definitely bad, you can dash to enemies with cloud from super far away why are you running to him lol)
stop spamming square and actually engage with the mechanics of the fight and its simple. You can unload whole combos on him when you hit him during reload

I had absolutely 0 trouble with the godskin duo in my playthrough and continuesly see it brought up im gonna do a ps5 run when the dlc drops and a new build so maybe ill experience some pain this time. Rufus is exactly my favoite kind of boss. Sadly on my hard run I absolutely broke him because i knew exactly how to make a dominating build by then.

WuLong's first boss was the most BS in any of the souls-like games. The first boss is literally harder than every other boss in the game, it was like they made it for the demo to be as hard as possible so people think the entire game is that hard, but it isn't at all, that's the hardest boss and then most other bosses are easy.

The Capra demon scared tf outta me when I first passed through the fog idk what they were expecting when they made such a small area for a boss who jumps like lebron with every attack, I finally beat him and threw my controller at the floor after still cause I was pissed they even included that boss in the game lol

the way I figured out back in the day against Jinpachi Mishima was remaping the R1 and R2 button to move in the Z plane, that was for me the only way to dodge those freaking lasers, I know you can move that direction softly taping the down or up arrow but as Jake said, the gap for dodging was to tight.

Rufus, seriously Watching the footage made me cringe, no wonder you guys found him too hard. This fight is all about attacking when he reloads and otherwise avoiding his attacks. He has an automatic counter whenever you attack him normally, so just attacking like that just doesn't work.

Lawrence the first vicar from bloodborne. This guy was extremely extremely tough for me. I usually don't have problem with bosses in bloodborne, but that guy, is something else. Even with the highest flame protection, this guy still hits like a truck. He was a pain in the ass for me

Godskin duo wasn’t that bad, all you had to do is get both there health bars down low then finish them both off simultaneously. Didn’t need sleep to cheese them. All time hardest boss is easily the final boss in sekiro for me, takes a minute to figure out all the attack patterns
