Warsong Gulch back in Wow Base game, they used to last for days because the bosses took so long and there was the summonable boss/champion
The last Remnant It was a square Enix game that had some long ass boss battles partially due to the union system.
FF8 had a boss where if you didn't junction properly, or have the proper magic the fight would go on infinitely because the damage over time would heal and because you didn't have the proper magic you literally wouldn't effectively be doing any damage, I also Vaguely recall Shin Megami Tensei DDS part 1 where one of the hidden bosses had this issue.
I think as well now that I recall in Part 2 or 3 of. Hack/sign there were dungeon bosses that took an excessively long time especially if you didn't have very specific things.

Yazmat took me 12 hours to beat, and I was inputting every command out of fun (love the game) because exactly that. one of the automated healing healed him T_T. On the excrutiating long Final Fantasy XI boss fights, FFXI was know back in the day as the most hardcore MMO.
Specially if you were going to do all the content, end-game, relics, etc. To this day, it is still a bar to high for any other MMO to replicate. Joke at the time was your full-time job was FF XI, and your IRL was just a way to pay for your full-time job lol.

My pet peeve is bosses you have to beat twice. Lies of P does this a bunch. I enjoy the game but having to reduce the bosses health down to 0 then just to have it heal up and have to fight it in a new form is really lame. Especially back to back. What the devs should do is raise those sorts of bosses Health a bit and when we reach the halfway point then switch over to the second form. Maybe I’d make a exception for the puppet king as that does seem to make since to have two separate health bars. Otherwise it’s lazy and lame

Apparently he hasn't played elite dangerous lately.
Thargiod maelstrom takes a week or longer first you have to weaken it by destroying its planetary resource stations to even get near the system it's at which is toxic corrosive area. Then after several weeks of hundreds of specialized ships destroying its stations thru out near by systems you can enter system n destruction after takes 24 to complete after 3 days of attacks with over 100 shops literally. So no not the longest boss fight. Oh n they are 12 we only got 4 so far.

This wouldn't count, given that it's from a gacha game, and gacha difficulty depends on your kind of party, but whenever Fate/Grand Order does a re-run of the boss fight against Demeter, I will be unable to break through her healing and defense buffs and regeneration in my first attempt; I'd end up going through ten revives before I end up feeling ill, retreat from the battle, take a break, and reorganise my team to beat her properly. It's why I consider her one of my worst bosses of all time.

You really have to be a demented, super lonely, terribly isolated video game nerd to actually sit and fight a video game boss for several hours. If people were physically sick from trying to defeat some of these bosses, it goes to show that those game developers really didn’t actually care about the well being of gamers and those gamers were too addicted to a pointless achievement to the point that they actually physically suffered in the process. Absurd

My honorable mention is the Dark Lord in Doom Eternal Ancient Gods part 2. Not as long as the others, but it’s just the same exact boss fight for five different stages, dodging him long enough until you get an opening to deal damage. If you make a mistake, he can heal his health back and prolong the whole fight
Almost nothing changes in the 5 entire stages until you beat him, it took me about 45 minutes to beat him the first time

Since you mention Final Fantasy, you forget the 2 optional bosses in the final fantasy 7 original, the weapons the Ruby ( the red in desert) and the other i think emerald (undersea). I am wondering. if they will be in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. how they will be. Hahahaha, especially the ruby one is a hell even if you are maxed, it needs special trick moves becouse it throw away your 2 teamates from the battle after some time.

I hate bosses because they feel very gamey and i do them only if the game is so excellent that it can convince me it's worth it (examples: The Witcher Trilogy, Jedi Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor etc. The best games are the ones that let you play in a way that you can skip boss fights completely (example: Deus Ex - Mankind Divided.
I really appreciate this video. Now i have a list of games to completely avoid.

I’ve seen it numerous times by now but the FF11 story always make me mad. I’ve heard of devs hating their player base, but man, the FF11 devs were purposefully scummy to their players if you heard of all the things they’d do. (Worse than that EverQuest story at the start of the video. I wonder if those devs were fired or still work for square anymore. Let alone be in game design anymore at all.

Just to add on the City of Heroes MMO. the Homecoming server officially got licensed by NC Soft this year, so basically it's back again, it's no longer a private server and that makes me happy. I'm also stoked that you guys even covered it! Sorry, my CoH/V fanboying is showing. And yeas, old Hami was a pain in the ass in the olden days for sure but it was worth it.

Ahh Absolute Virtue, the biggest example of absolute developer pettyness you can find.
From what i've heard every time a group found a way to actually beat this thing they claimed it was an exploit and not legit so they patched it out.
No idea why they were so proud of themselves for making a super crap bossfight and wanted to keep it unbeatable.

On City of Heroes my guild used to run Hamidon raids every weekend, we had it down to a science and could beat him in 1-2 hours rarely failing. Though i had a falling out with the guild so then a couple times me and my buds pulled the Giant Monster enemies into the raid group wiping them and frustrating the hell out of my ex Supergroup (guild)

I’m genuinely surprised ff7 rebirth’s boss chapter didn’t make this list because it is literally the ENTIRE chapter and has like 7-8 phases lol. I hear a lot of people say the ultima boss fight in ff16 being difficult or too long but to me it just wasn’t at all and that is not at all an attempted flex I’m not some type of pro gamer

Since such stressful things alter your hormone release and your breathing your bowels can suffer serious damage and you can end up with a stoma bag. So just go on and overdo it. Pressing half processed food out of a bag so that it doesnt burst isn't the best experience. especially because the smell is more ibtense than the one of shXt.

Yeah the boss fights in ff16 are long but they are amazingly fun all the way through. They suck if you replay the game again immediately on the hardest difficulty for the platinum though. Definitely take a week between playthroughs. I just finished FF7 Rebirth and the final fight was much worse. It was long, and entirely confusing.

Number 10 is untrue. Rebirth's final sequence from the first phase of Jenova to the final phase of Sephiroth is 1. 5-2 hours long. Ultima is only a 30 minute fight. How are you taking an hour to beat a 30 minute fight And it's physically impossible to beat the final battle sequence in Rebirth in less than that.

I remember having to deal with the secret final boss in the first Octopath Traveler game and when I realized that I had to fight it again in Octopath Traveler 2, I just didn't bother with it because it took me years just to try and level up everyone just to be prepared for it in the first Octopath Traveler game.
