Sony NEX-FS100. it's ability in low light is like night vision, provides both Auto Focus (via contrast detection using native E-Mount lenses or phase detection via an adapter to Sony Alpha Lenses) for ENG use as well as manual focus for cinema application.
Long battery life (8hrs on one NP-F970 battery) and up to 22 hrs of record time in HD using dual 128GB (1 x hard drive + 1 x SD Card)
Higher than normal latitude AVCHD, clean 8-bit 4: 2: 2 via HDMI out. Can use ALL lenses on market.

The video camera I use and recommend is the Sony HDR-CX580v. It records 1080p and you can set it to 24fps or leave it at 60fps. 20. 4 mega pixel photos and wide angle 12 times optical zoom. 5. 1 surround sound audio but I use the mic input for my shotgun mic. It was $799 about a month ago. Can even do shallow depth of field if you turn off the auto focus. Sony Lens G and the Exmor R sensor. I thought about buying an DSLR camera for my video but I'm glad I bought a video camera that takes pictures.

Hi Griffin. The issue of selecting a HD camcorder is a matter of cost. The notes I have already seen including the VIXIA 100 are great choices. I bought a JVC EVERIO HM320 refurbished for 100 on ebay, and although it doesn't have an external mic input, the camera is super light weight, and using rigs like the frugal flyer is a snap. As a first HD camera it gets me in the ballpark. I know my next camera will be more high end, but for entry level I am a happy guy!

Aw. I'm running at 3: 00. I had intended on a much earlier time, but was late with signing up! Would love to be running at 8: 00 though.
Well, good luck to you Griffin. Looking forward to seeing the Dash through the Go Pro lens. When you introduced the new Go Pro a few weeks back I was considering getting one to test out at the Dash, but decided against it. At least I can see what it would have looked like now! Good luck with the rig as well!

The EF 50mm 1. 8 is what i had in mind as well, i heard something about the sensor in the T3i changes the 50mm into a 80mm telephoto im still researching haha, And i actually record my band with my studio equipment so i know about my mics and everything, I haven't looked up camera mics, but im sure any condenser would be good with a wind suppressor

why not use a 1/2 pvc one since there so small u could make it so thin. them 40 degee angles let u make any angle u want. and the T joints u could go up your back like the snorry cam. almost just like it but out of pvc with the cement clue. ill upload a video to show u a rig i just made with it and how compact the 1/2 is.

kodak zi8 is the best camcorder on the market. at least for the price, i got mine new for 140$! they shoot in hd, up to full 1080p and in 720p at 60 fps! it also shoots at 720p in 30fps and wvga in 30fps, also takes 5 mp stills. it also has an audio input and an hdmi output

my camcorder is panasonic hdc-tm700, which is now upgraded to tm-900 if i am right!
it is great, and has best manual controls compared to any other camcorder at the time i purchased. It has a manual ring to control setting as iris, white balance, focus and shutter.

Hey Griffin, I use Canon XF100 as my main camcorder. It works great! The images are wonderful, and it's incredibly compact. I'd say the only minor drawback is the automatic nd filter, but it's not that much of a problem for me, really.

I would say Flip Video Ultra HD with image stabilization, I've been using it for almost 2 years now and its never let me down. 8GB (2 Hours. I've made a feature length movie on it. i highly recommend it, and its only about $110.

Hm, okay sorry: ) Did you get the chance to try premiere too? Any comparisons or at least how well does FCP perform?
Oh and IMO one of the best things about indymogul is that you answer to your audience, thanks x)

Hey Griffin! Could you tell me what you're workflow is? If you use After Effects, do you edit it all in Final Cut to piece it together, and then bring the whole thing into After Effects?

Reason for recommending Panasonic HCV700M 3D Full HD 28mm Wide Angle SD Camcorder is
1. Mic Input
2. Panasonic's image stabilization is awesome.
3. Price drop during some season.

I feel with you: ) but magic lantern really covers most of the fuss anyways, and even if there is a stereo mic I still would upgrade to an external because of reduction of camera sounds

1080p at 24fps. use a shutterspeed of 1/50, and ONLY change the ISO and aperture to change brightness/ exposure (dont change the shutter speed or some lights will start flickering)

you should make a rig that attaches like a back pack where you place your go pro on your shoulder and an attachable plate to your go pro to click on and off

make all the images as an image sequence and set tracking points on the truck. then stabilize the image sequence based on the tracking points.
