When importing 1080p video into my editor, at what point should change it to 720p for any crops etc? I mean, should i just edit and then export at 720p? Also, i have never created 720p video so i am a little nervous about the quality. My old work has been done with an entry level nikon D3100 but i now have the Canon 5D Mkiii which is obviously superior but still won't make me any less nervous.
Oh, yea. And how many batteries should i have? I am purchasing a battery grip and already have 2 batteries. Should i have 2 loaded grips? Thanks Mogul Champs: -)

Where do you get the custom DVD's made? Is there a service/company that will do just one custom case and custom DVD cover for someone shooting wedding videos regularly? I am starting to get in to this, and my biggest issue right now is this. I have the videos edited (highlights, ceremony, dances, speeches. Is there a company where you can send these to and they will put it on to a DVD for you and then proceed to put a photo on the front of the DVD and also a custom case for your bride and groom? Please help!

Hi Griffin, thanks for the video it really does help give me a better perspective. I do have a question. What do you do when you want to get video of the bride before she is getting into her dress and stuff. Im asking mostly because I dont want to seem like a peeping tom videographer. But I also want to get some candid shots of her when she is around her friends and family before hand. So, how do I go about getting video and asking to do that in a way where I do seem like a pervert?

Does anyone have any tips on finding good music for highlight reels? It kills me that I can't use popular songs, at least to my knowledge, because I am making these videos for profit and I don't own the rights to the music. But the popular songs sound soo much better than the right free stuff. Is there any sort of loop hole that anyone knows of?
Also, can anyone recommend good sites for good right free music (even if you might have to pay for some of them?

Last question, when you're the only camera man around, do you always leave one camera on the bride? Never the groom?

Hi there, when you mention slowing down the film for that dramatic slo mo effect, you mention filming at 60fps then rendering to 24 fps. What does this mean exactly, and can you do this with a hi end HD camcorder. Furthermore, how is this different to creating a slo mo effect in after effects or in the editing software by changing the velocity of the uploaded footage in the timeline?

Wow I was planning to start up a video editing business for weddings etc. but I was afraid if I was going to mess up like the footage or if it was not professional enough. but at the end where you said it does not really matter if you mess up, they will still love the video made me feel a lot better, thanks man and great tips. btw I am only 18

Hi Indy, i really love your videos, thank you very much indeed. i wish you could help me on deciding what camera should i buy now since am moving from using a nikon D3200 and i don't know what camera to take, my budget is Around 600$ and am thinking if its going to be a DSLR then i have to take two of them. In the past when I've shot with DSLR's, I've found that my camera will only record in increments of 20 minutes. I'll usually have to stop recording and then restart once I approach that 20 minute mark. Is this just because I don't have a big enough memory card or is there a specific way to format so it continuously records?

I am 13 and just got hired to do a wedding for some family. I am REALLY nervous around strangers and don't want to mess it up. I have suggested that they also have a professional come and do it because I have only ever been to 2 weddings and have no idea what the time is like. I am just wondering for any tips of doing this?

Hey, how do you quickly switch from tripod to the shoulder rig? Like you were saying, when the bride enters, you are shoulder rigging it due to everyone standing, but how do you switch quickly and effectively back and forth? Hope you have the time to answer, or someone else could chime in, thanks!

Great tips. I'm shooting a friend's wedding tomorrow and this helps a lot. I've shot other family and friend's weddings before but this is this first time I'm going to try and improve the audio. I bought a zoom H1 for the lapel mic during the ceremony and a H4N to hook up with the sound system.

I noticed my DSLR (T3i) stops recording after about 10 minutes. I've been told this is because the battery overheating or the software formatting of the camera. This has deterred my from getting into more event work. Anyone else have this problem? Any good work arounds?

Haha, i am soooo doomed. My sisters wedding is coming up here in two weeks and i was asked to film for it. all i have is a nice go pro, and a nice camrea rental. i have goodish, editing skills if i try hard enough. so, on a scalr of 1-10 do you think i am doomed?

Thanks-Excellent tips-I just want to know? The distribution of the final product, how many minutes normally for actual wedding videos in the DVD, Including the 5 minutes highlight. Maybe you can make a seperate video in regards to this topic. Thanks.

This is brilliant and proves I'm going in the right direction. I too no longer use wireless mics and stick to lav with recorder.
Keen to know what package you are using for authoring your DVD? I use FCPX for editing.
