The Cinematography of Hustlers Camera & Lighting Breakdown

With the Cinematographer from Hustlers, we explore how storytellers can create amazing looking scenes on rooftops, clubs, and bars Calder: I love this! I feel like some of my lighting choices are kind of arbitrary, so it's always helpful to see someone explain their thought process behind lighting a specific scene. I've already been reflecting on how I could have lit some scenes differently, and videos like this are definitely going to play a role in how I approach scenes going forward. Thanks so much for this!

On the whip pan, at 6: 32, that was used to disguise a cut? I'm only asking because I have heard editors state that great cinematographers born in the editing room, and this seems like an example of what they are talking about.
Edit: Also thank you again for getting some great people on to take about their craft.

This is the kind of info I buy DVDs and Blu-Rays to get. Only this is way less hand-wavy. Thank you sooooo much for helping outsiders learn the dark arts!

That was amazing! Thx Todd! Learn sooo much! Great to see a Major movie breakdown with the Cinematographer that was involved in these scenes.

I need to be best friends with Todd. He is the most articulate and genius cinematographer I've ever listened to. EXCELLENT explanations!

great video BUT kindly tone down the SOUND of the pen of your guests scribbling, it's kind of disturb me any time I watched your videos.

Haze to make the whole set a diffusion light box. Nice. That's happening in Australia right now with all the bush fires.

Hey Indy Mogul
PLEASE! do something with that awful sound of the marker, just because of that I cant watch the videos.

I would like to know why the DP and the director chose to use spherical and to crop over shooting anamorphic.

As usual a very interesting video. Now we know that we can't afford to shoot night scenes. HAHA. Still cool though.

I saw the thumbnail and got confused as hell. Thought it was the Hulk with blue arms hugging someone.
