How the Sony A7S Changed the Film Industry Forever
video description
While Sony definitely led the full frame mirrorless market, we can't forget how panasonic pioneered internal 4k and 10 bit 422 on those tiny cameras. It's crazy to think that until the a7s 3, no hybrid camera had a codec as robust as the GH5, years after its release!
Now Panasonic just needs to get their autofocus together so they don't get left behind like canikon did in the past haha

Why put such an amazing EVF on a video camera that you won't be using? 99% of the time its only useful for stills? If the EVF tiltable and extendable then the hundreds of dollars added to the price tag of the body could be justified. I know they're trying to appeal to photographers and videographers at the same time, but cmon normies aren't going to buy a 12 MP camera, the A7S3 should be built with video in mind first, then stills as an after thought, the amount of modes dedicated to stills on the dial that don't work for video is just Sony not thinking it through. Hopefully a variant (that isn't the FX3) can dedicate to a detachable screen or flexible EVF so it can really be a one stop shop for a one man show, as it stand you're paying for a useless (albeit amazing for other purposes) EVF, with a just decent LCD (could stand to have higher PPI and be as big as the R5 screen. Sony seems to be open to feedback and churning out variants of bodies and just pumping out bodies in general so perhaps we can see a truly formidable endgame FF 4k body from them within 5 years. If they implement ion a future body auto shutter close like in the Sony A1 so dust doesn't ruin entire shoots and IBIS that continues to get better, there really won't be a need to upgrade for 4k productions anymore

I think the title is misleading as Sony never changed the Film Industry forever, they only made a lot of things right over the years. No one really cares about ISO after all but image quality and it took some time for Sony to adapt to that. But, you gotta start somewhere to gain attraction and with 100k ISO, they caught the attention of many. Canon changed the film industry as the 5D really changed the way people shoot. Arri changed the film industry again with the Alexa as people like Roger Deakins jumped ship and never shot film again (almost) so those 2 cameras really revolutionized everything. Sony is still improving and I love their cameras but working in industry for many years, everybody just cares more about the next Alexa than the next Sony really: )

I still think it is amazing that an entire feature film was shot a7sii's. But now with internal 4: 2: 2 10 bit 4K on the a7siii there is no telling what will happen next.
I got my own a7siii at the beginning of the month and I love this camera. While I may not be able to use all the features do to my computer's limited tech, this is still a great camera for any filmmakers who want to recreate the feel of a full production without spending around $50, 000 then this camera is for you.

So would you recommend that I get the a7iii or the Sony a7sii? I want the a7sii but I've been hearing and seeing that the auto focus is terrible. I see them floating around $900-$1200, I dnt want to spend that and have to worry about the auto focus. Idc about the battery life! So did the update help it out or gone ahead with the a7iii?

I really liked this. Thanks for taking the time to make this and create such content. Your energy allowed me to watch the entire video without getting bored. Please make more content like this maybe diving into the history of Sony color science or just color science in general between different cameras.

I never understand why people need this camera to vlog? for less than 500 euros you can get a 4k camera and flip screen. Why spend more for vlog? Raw codec for vlog? this is not film industry. Alway marketing strategy to sell us the dream camera. but yes the Sony A7s I. III are great

You forgot the Video Devices PixE5, beat the Ninja to the small form factor by years! I ended up with an Pix E7 because I was already used to big rigs and have old eyes, but the e5 was absolutely and option.

I am not convinced that VHS is dead. We all thought that vinyl was dead, and now it is on its way back. I think maybe it is just in time out. Anyway, great video as always Dave! Thank you!

Still can't believe Sony released the A1 when the A7siii was released in July. Not really sure where the A1 stands in the lineup, just seems like a really overpriced hybrid.

Despite everyone's excitement, the price is still Bt. Prosumers have destroyed realistic prices for camera gear. Thanks for the informative video.

When i saw the price I felt like. Hm bmpcc6k is kinda up that range. But no AF, no ibis. So basically yeah the 7s3 is quite impressive.

Dudes, you need to check your music tracks with a better system as that bass makes it almost in watchable if you have good bass
