Many consider the 3DO console to be a complete failure. But is this really the case? There are quite a few good games for it, but are they enough to merit buying a system? Get the history, pros and cons of the console in this review of: The Panasonic FZ-1 R. E. A. L. 3DO Interactive Multiplayer console

One of the best looking games on the Panasonic 3D0 was Space Hulk. It was mind blowing for a home console at the time and one of the best versions of this cross platform title. If the 3D0 could have lived longer, I am sure that quite a bit more could have been squeezed out of this video chipset and Arm CPU. I believe one of the hardware designers also contributed into the original Amiga and Atari Lynx handheld.

Never owned a 3DO, but I do remember it featuring on a show called It's Alive. The program had a game show segment where kids would get slime dumped on them for wrong answers. The prize was always a 3DO. They also gave away 3DOs whenever they had a mail-in sweepstakes. I don't think they ever showed footage of 3DO gameplay though, and I have no metric with which to judge the quality of the 3DO.

Was $750 and is a superior machine to the PlayStation. Unless you were around at that time you don-t really get how cool the system was. The concept of interactive movies is one that we barely have yet to explore to this day. Pretty much the first video disc player besides the huge laser disks and can do CSI style clearing up of an image

It took me forever to tell my head that, yes this is indeed LGR. xD The aspect ratio, the audio, the video quality. Everything just didnt feel like the modern LGR stuff. But now, after watching, I finally wrapped my mind around it and im like. damn. He held himself up quite well there =)

My dad worked for Panasonic when this bad boy came out. he brought a system home with a binder full of games and said to my brother and I -here, tell me what you think-. ahh those were the days! Road Rash was the most played by far: )

The Panasonic 3DO the REAL Interactive Multiplayer System
Feels great saying that. You should get the MNEMO and RGB mods for your 3DO. I got mine modded with these items and it's breathed new life into my console.

I had a 3DO. All my friends would come over to play the original need for speed. The music/video player was pretty basic, made a good LSD trippy party backdrop. Other than that it was pretty useless.

These were always on display in the videogame section when I was growing up. I'd always play the racing game demo. Those stores were the only place I'd ever see the 3DO, anywhere.

I think that the 3DO had potential, it was just ruined by the amount of FMV-based games for the system & the huge game boxes. Also, it just couldn-t win against the other systems.
