I think most people will say 2000 or 3000 are the best Sim City games of all time. I agree, with 2000 probably being what I would think most think is the best of all. However, Sim City on the SNES holds a very special place in my heart and is the game that got me into not only sim games, but isometric RTS games as well. I would of never considered playing Warcraft if it was not for Sim City. Plus, the music on the SNES version is the 3rd greatest game music of all time. The 2nd being Chrono Trigger and obviously, the 1st being Megaman 2 for NES.

I was looking forward to the multiplayer challenge of the last sim city, though really wish they were given the time to get it working properly. It was fixable. I never got the hang of skylines (I actually really dislike the UI in the game and it's zoning in comparasion is just awful far as I'm concerned. ) so the end of city builders was here for me- i recently got 4 working again as well as the free version of sim city 2000 that was on Origin so at least can still play something.

Ahh I remember getting overwhelmed by sim city 3000 and never knowing what Todo and just being broke so used to mess with cheats but sim city 2000 different story entirely I had it for the game boy advance and I loved it and spent so many many hours playing to the point I managed to build a hole city kept earning money and balance everything basically beating the game still have my copy to this day with my save file was such a fantastic game and my favourite in the series

In 1992 I worked for a large real estate development company for a time, and was an assistant to a honcho who was in charge of this whole planned community they were building. She told me, to my great surprise, how she was really into this video game SimCity. Because she definitely didn't seem like a gamer. She explained she could set things up and see how they worked. Her development has grown into a whole town now!

-Societies- had some cool elements - the way the city, environment, and even music changed based on what you placed was really interesting, and earning points in different categories was ahead of its time. Whatever Maxis comes out with in the future, I'd love to see elements of SCS mixed with more advanced city simulators like Cities: Skylines, Cities XL, and even oldschool ones like CityState, Pharaoh, etc.

Somebody turned me on to a classic SimCity clone called TheoTown. While not necessarily the best game it's really interesting in the fact that it's cross-platform and you can play and link cities with other people. You can also download and create areas to build on. I messed around with it for about an hour one day so can't really comment too much on the game itself, but I enjoyed myself nevertheless.

Sim city societies did have a good soundtrack imo, and the themed cities, which we never saw again sadly. Would be cool to play a sim city with zoning that functions as a Dictatorship, or any other theme. Sim city 4 has mods that can do this, but perhaps someday it will happen for real. CityState does have some theme to it's cities, but not to the extreme of Sim City societies.

After watching this I actually remember that I had both SimCity Societies and the jr. version, in addition to SimCity4. 4 is the only one I can remember playing though, the region feature was. wow, that was a very very good idea. I'd wish they add something like that if they're ever remaking Cities Skylines, would love to make some all rural areas to go with the cities.

-And now, it's time for the Sim City reboot from Maxis which which is said to be released Mar 5, 2013. Is it any good, does it live up to the Sim City name? -
-a little over two weeks later after this video was posted-
NOPE! (but still an improvement from -Societies-, but totally inferior to Cities: Skylines, or even Cities XL)

Still playing SimCity 3000 to this day. Tried SimCity 4 when it came out, ran into some aesthetically displeasing terrain flattening issues. Since then only used it to create towns for the Sims 2.
Speaking of the Sims, can you adjust height already or are all Sims still evenly tall corresponding to their life stage?
