With how god awful the main quest, random dungeons, and glitches are, I think Arena is the better game. Yes Daggerfall is more complicated, has better graphics, and. is actually more of a TES game; Arena had a real consistency to it and doesn't screw you over at every turn. At least with the GOG version, it is much, MUCH, less buggy. While Daggerfall's true open (and giant) world is more impressive technically, there's something to be said about the interesting and unique randomly generated islands, forts, and towns of Arena. Of course, you're also traded a more -realistic- and grounded setting for a massive adventure, so that's a matter of tastes, but given how buggy and primitive Daggerfall is, I'd say it feels a lot less realistic than it should, so Arena wins out in my eyes. Same goes for the music, I love Arena's ost, but what Daggerfall doesn't rip from the first is far less energetic.
But hey, if you just gotta have those big 3D dungeons then fine, have fun getting lost in the Adamantine Tower for the 4th time, I'll be sailing through Elden Grove's more open misty forest and lake.
. But you know, you could just play one of the later games instead lol.

If they used the random generation technology we have today for games like Minecraft, No Man's Sky, and Elite Dangerous, then they could make an amazing fantasy RPG experience! We do need a main plot that's epic, and at least a few hand crafted side quests that are interesting, but the rest could be just handled by an algorithm. Including features in the background to make the world feel dynamic like regions being conquered by other regions or new leaders taking over after ones fall off can not only make a world that never feels the same each time you play, but one that genuinely feels alive, with you participating in it.

Man I've never seen a game that has both excellent and terrible features as this one. Size, quests, details, time limits are all excellent, but dungeons suck as they lack rhyme and reason, a promising area with columns and statues can be as much as a dead end as the pool at the bottom of the place. Similar textures don't mean you are closer to the entrance, it is completely random. And it doesn't matter how big world is every town is the same and no one has personality.

I had an issue of GamesMaster magazine with a review for Daggerfall and it was such a glowing review that I kept reading it over and over again imagining the game. I didn't have PC and I never played the game. I just remembered it and found this video. First time I've actually seen the game running and it's even better than I imagined it 24 years ago.

I wish they port these games to mobile or something. Just like FF7, I can't play these games at pc because of gameplay but I still want to enjoy the experience. I heard so many great things about FF7 but I'm skeptical on playing it on my Playstation. But once I downloaded the mobile port let's just say I'm not seen around for 2 weeks.

Bethesda should be ridiculed, not gloriously memed for their bugs. I will never give them praise for the fact that as time has gone by, each subsequent Elder Scrolls game has become infinitely more bug filled but far fewer bugs have actually been addressed by Bethesda, instead leaving it to modders to fix. Free labour I guess.

My fondest memory of this game is being hired by king what's-his-face to get a ring back from a pawn shop. I got the ring and went back to the city, but it was at night so I was shot with a poison dart. I made it into the castle, delivered the ring, and promptly dropped dead in front of the king. I hadn't saved.

Haha, that CD copy protection was a joke. Took about an half an hour with the DOS debug utility to figure out and hack the boot loader. Reversing a single conditional branch opcode was all that was required to ensure the game would only run if the CD was NOT in the drive.
