If this thing is indeed like the AverMedia LGP, those looking to cap retro consoles thinking -Hell, it can cap PS3/360/Wii, it should be able to handle NES-, well, that's a big no, and with the help of the folks at the AverMedia forum we concluded to actually get this done you'd need what is a not so cheap piece of hardware to complete the job. I had upscaled the video using an HDMI upscaler to 720p, 1080p, I tried _everything_, it just won't do the job without more investment. and thats maybe.

LGR: I'm wondering about one thing after watching your video- There's a LAN port on this box, right? And there's an iOS app for it. This means that the LAN connection can be used to control the box in some way or other, because there's no way to physically connect it to your iDevice, and the box doesn't have BT. So you need a network for controlling it. Doesn't that mean that there's a way to transfer files to your PC over the network, e. g. via browser UI or FTP? I'd say give it a try.

This sounds like a handy-dandy little device. This is very informative. It's great that things like this exist now, as this would really help with gameplays and reviews that you play on other formats other than PC, I'll have to do a bit of looking into to see if this wold work with the Wii although I've been considering getting an X-box or Playstation at some point. Most of what I play is on PC these days and I use Fraps to record my footage and commentaries. :)

Nice device, except for a couple of drawbacks, as I see it.
It's too bad you can't transfer the files via USB or other connection (when you mentioned this, my enthusiasm for it dropped a bit)
It's also too bad it only does interlaced 1080 25/30fps
Lastly, a question:
Is it possible to route the HDMI input to a capture driver and use say - your dslr camera as a webcam? I'm looking for something with that capability.
Thanks man

are you sure it's only 1080i? how many boxes that still can't do progressive recording do we need? in fast paced games, de-interlacing makes the video look terrible. for 170 bucks and from what i saw in your video, this looks like garbage. the live gamer hd seems like the only decent recording tool from avermedia. and even with that one you have to mess around for a while to understand what settings don't de-sync your audio over time.

I have the original Avermedia Game Capture HD and other than the HDMI ports and internal video editing software it's not that different from the first model. The GUI and many of the things from the original are the same right down to the remote. So unless you need it for the HDMI ports I wouldn't recommend upgrading it if you have the original like I do.

No
A DVD recorder can do the same thing by just copying the VOB files. However, it does have the dreaded -cyclic redundancy check- error.
I've also got an AverMedia composite capture dongle, but the input lag is unacceptable for gaming. The signal needs to be split (fortunately, the aforementioned DVD recorder outputs in both HDMI and composite at the same time.

I just bought my Game Capture HD2 and I have a bit os loss of video quality. It is not much, but I didn't buy a high quality smartTV, an Xbox One and now the Game Capture HD 2 for having this.
I tried to update the firmware (mine has 1. 1. 6) but Avermedia's website is not clear enough about what file I need.
What can I do?
Thanks

For anyone wanting to capture PS3 footage over HDMI (or footage from any device with HDCP) I picked up an $18 HDMI splitter from Amazon which does the trick. It strips the HDCP protection! You just need a spare power outlet and an extra HDMI cable: ) Do your research because not all splitters will do the job!

Seems like a pretty good alternative to the Hauppauge. Seems to be identical featurewise to the Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming II, but at a bit lower price point (which makes sense given it's newer.
I'm still in the market for a more reliable way to capture composite and S-Video.
