One of the more notoriously gory adventure games, Harvester is certainly dark and twisted. But it is a cult favorite for reasons beyond the obvious horror and violence!

I remember hearing advertisements on the radio for this game (I'm guessing it was too gory that no TV station would advertise it. I might try to find a copy of this game and a computer to play it on as it was wondering what game play was like (and probably get a good laugh at the poor graphics given today's technology.
Yeah I mean the gore that we see in this game play (in the video) is nowhere near as bad as some of the things that are allowed out now especially with better graphics

I think this game doesn't necessarily have a message, it's just designed by someone who noticed how practically every video game ever made revolves around violence in some form, and felt weird about it. I personally see no issue with it because those games aren't really about the fighting, it's about what you are fighting for; but some people have a bizarre tendency to see injustice in random things, ie. the need to breathe constantly to stay alive.

Oh go that's too far! Not a housewife that wants to look good for her husband by wearing pearls, now that's just a bit too much. I can take the cannibalism and children being buried alive by pedophiles, but women actually wanting to please their husbands just makes my stomach turn. Someone, please. link me to an Anita Sarkeesian video- quick!
Also, Range Ryder did nothing wrong.

I feel like it might be put on these gore lists because even though it's a little anti-climatic with the actual blood and guts, you've got the townsfolk behaving so horrible throughout (Especially with the horror of Steve's father and the cruel headmistress) that even though it doesn't reach the usual standards of body horror its so eerie that its still a really harrowing experience

I really, really dont like point and click adventure games, but this one got me hooked.
I had to use a guide to get at the lodge part and gave up on the action part.
Even with infinite ammo, its was a bit much.
The ambiance and voice acting in this game is just incredible.
Thanks for your review, might give me the courage to finish it someday.

Early 3D rendering combined with FMV, a recipe for disaster. But damn, with what they had they really did a great job with the art. Its a shame this was the only game Future Vision seemed to have made, because id venture to call these guys the -best of the worst- at least in terms of art direction

I watched a playthrough of this and loved the hell out of it so I watched the same person do phantasmagoria after and in comparison it actually bored me a bit, the weird aethstetic of harvester was so out there that I just had to laugh, which now that I think about it -probably says more about me-

I missed this one as a PC gamer of the 90's. It looks dated now and I agree with all of the issues mentioned in this video. Thing is the idea of seeing real people in a video game was absolutely amazing back during this era though. Other games did a much better job of it though.

I played this game for the first time a month ago. Honestly, it was one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had. It had a unique atmosphere, strange yet interesting characters and an original delivery. Is it just me, or did the game feel inspired partly by Twin Peaks?

The more I view this series, the more I realize I had nothing to do with the commercial failure of many of these titles - I bought them all. Guess that's what happens when as a gamer, you choose the PC in the early '90's and leave the consoles for the children.
