Is there actually even a 'story' at all? Because a lot of people are touting 'story' as a feature of this interactive virtual experience, or what have you, and they were _also_ doing that with _Dear Esther_ as well, and _Dear Esther_ had _no_ story to speak of, just a rambling series of incongruous statements that never jelled and didn't tell anything. I really felt like I wasted my time by the end, and I almost played through _twice_ before I just broke down and scoured the audio files. _Still_ nothing.
If I was going to 'tell the story myself' (like I've heard used in defense of _that_ product, I'd tell a _better_ one.

After experiencing this title for myself, I feel conflicted. The music and atmosphere were good. However, as pointed out, the player character moves incredibly slowly, and the cause of everything. seemingly had no motivation. It was just. happening. I still have no idea why everyone was dissapearing. I know how it happened. but not why. And the way it was happening didn't seem like divine intervention to me. Some of it was really messed up even. Like stuff you'd see in a horror movie. So the whole -Rapture- motif seemed kind of misleading. The ending made me think about human nature though, so there's that I guess.

I want to like this game, but the main point of the game is the story and I feel like it fell apart at the end. It didn't leave me satisfied; it left me feeling slight confused, but mostly frustrated. Yes, the atmosphere and music was beautiful, and that makes me only more disappointed because they had an excellent set-up and yet it feels like they got bored with the main plot, slowly giving it less care and trying to end it wherever they could.
Spoiler alert: Basically they build three hours of talking, walking, characters, and story for just: -Go into the light. -

All you do is just walk? Well that really sucks, I was hoping for something good out of this game and I'm sure the story and the soundtrack sound interesting, but if there's little to NO gameplay, then what's the point of even paying it full price? The least they could've done is add some unique or clever puzzles that made you delve more into the -game- like it was a next-gen version of The 7th Guest. I'm sure The Chinese Room are doing their best to make visually appealing and interactive games, but they should remember that they're making a game, not an art piece.

Watching the gameplay footage I was thinking -wow! it looks so realistic! this is most realistic 3D I've ever seen! -. Then I realised its not that special at all, just that all the assets look like the objects I see day to day living in the British countryside rather than the usual generic North American buildings and stuff. There's something oddly satisfying about seeing mundane objects like roadside bollards, electricity pylons and telephone boxes that look like the ones I'm used to that makes it feel like a real place. :)

these games can be beautiful and artistic
however when your finished it, your never going to really play it again
its like a book, you won't read it again soon after you finished
the experience of reading the first time is gone and you won't feel it ever again
I'm not saying artistic games are bad and shouldn't be there
however we do have to take this into consideration as that there's so many more games coming out like this: -/

I'll wait for a sale, but I'm cautiously optimistic this game will have some appeal for me. My worry is it'll be too much like Proteus, which is a nice world, but with almost nothing, and nothing fun, to do. Almost like the game developers built the world and were going to add gameplay later, but then were like, ah, screw it, this is enough. For me, it wasn't. But maybe Rapture will connect with me in some way, even if only the story and soundtrack.

I did a read up on this game and without any spoilers, I can say I hate the characters as the interpretation I got paints a very dark, selfish and psychotic picture of introspection and madness and what seems light and fluffy is actually twisted and nightmarish.
I dunno, walking simulators are okay but I think What Remains of Edith Finch is the only good one I've played. :/ I hate ham fisted stories.

Guys, just because you don't like this style of game doesn't make it less of a game. I don't like these kinds of games either but I know that there are people who really enjoy this stuff, why be so disrespectful towards something just because it's not your cup of tea? You are not the only person in the universe and you don't get to decide what is a game and what isn't.

Meh. Didn't like this game so much. I also didn't like The Chinese Room's other games like Dear Esther or Machine for Pigs. All 3 of these games were disappointing. If you want a game of the same concept, but just does everything better (even the music in my opinion, play Homesick (not the horror one. Liked the video though.
