The AMD DX2 wasn't exactly faster than INTEL, just cheaper, because Intel offered CPUs up to Intel DX4-100.
AMD had matching models, such as the AM486 DX4-75, DX4-90, DX4-100 and up to DX4-120.
The models that were faster are the Am5x86 / AMD X5, which allowed 133, 150 and 160 MHz and respectively reached up to approx. Pentium 90 level performance despite being a 486.
This is where this upgraded DX4 got its special label for, why it had a very strong following, and how it got both collectors and cult status twin today. :-)
The best matching VGA/graphics cards to an AMD X5 were the S3 Virge series or ATI Mach 64. If you really wanted to give the system a serious boost, you could also go for the much more current 3DFX Voodoo Banshee 16MB PCI, which is why it is very sought after as well. ;-)
Note: The S3 Virge was introduced 1995, approx. the same time the AMD DX4-100 was. The Voodoo Banshee however is from 1998 and is the first real combination of 3DFX graphics with 2D functionality, and was used a lot for OEM systems. The Banshee / Avenger is NOT the Voodoo Rush, which was a Voodoo 1 atrocity using foreign 2D Chips differing between brands, attempting, and failing, to provide the same 2D+3D functionality.

-LGR AND - 18: 53, yeah the extra pins are for socket 4 Intel Pentium Overdrive 63/83Mhz Overdrive CPUs, I have both, i think the Pentium OD 63Mhz And the 83Mhz. but im not 100% on that but i do know i have the Pentium OD 63Mhz cpu. and The Intel DX4 OD 100mhz is in the RETAIL BOX (NOT SEALED THO: ( )but i do have everything to the DX4 Overdrive CPU. and i have the Pentium Overdrive 63Mhz for DX33 systems the Intel Dx4 Overdrive has even the 3. 5 Floppy disk and documentation the for the Intel DX4 OD. I actually worked at AMD around this time, 1994-96 and the chip was fast because we licensed the process from Intel, also why we could use the same naming nomenclature, on the pentium we were on our own and named it the k5. They would get hot because we didnt have control of our process. you couldn't get me to buy an AMD chip at the time, now you cant give me an intel chip, my how times change!

3: 55 Box with ISA boards and here are PCI VooDoo etc. Nice sorting skills btw: -D
Well, that MB is not bad, but if you decide to insert longer card to ISA slot other than first or VLB slots, it will colide with CPU cooler, so not so cool thing, if you use CPU with active cooling. And probably even small pasive heatsink will be problem too.

So many memories came to me. I had an AMD 5x86 16MB RAM (initially only 4) also with an American Megatrends motherborard. I loved that UI too with all that options and I learned a lot. -Keen- was the game I used my first DOS commands. Not to say the eternal problem to run games. I remember waiting forever for Age of Empires to load a map.

I never use a wrist strap either. It has never caused me any issues, despite my having built/repaired dozens if not hundreds of PC-s.
I had that logitech mouse as a kid. They had a cool program you could program to work in any application, and you could customize everything it would do, and even make macros.

This was the first PC I used when I was 3-4 y. o. back in 97-98, I miss those times so much, I literally learned how to write on a 486, instead of using a pen and a piece of paper, and my dad back in the days programmed it for me, using a QBasic interface, to exercise myself with basics math's operations: D

-these plastic offsets. they just pop in here- - Clint Well, they do TODAY. Back in the mid 90s those things plastic was not yet broken down, so I'd literally slice my hand open putting them on motherboards working at the computer store. They were an insanely hard press to push through once upon a time.

Some of those batteries in those RTCs kept a charge for well over 8-10 years. The coin (2032) batteries of today only seem to last maybe 4-5 years. It might be that those older batteries simply had more amperage, as some of them where quite large and certainly had lots of juice.
