WOW! Clint, I've been binging on your vids lately and after clicking on this one I definitely was not expecting to see that -Gorilla Systems- logo on the back of the box there. Gorilla was my first Game Dev job out of college as a programmer, though I didn't work on this game (this was released about a decade before I started working there.
Based in Oldsmar, FL, at least at the time I worked there. Funny thing is, in college, I use to tell myself -I don't want to work on barbie games! -; while technically I never did, I still worked on girl games at Gorilla as my first foray into professional game development XD. My first published title with them was -The Clique: Diss and Make-up-. We were also working on new IP that never got released, since the company ended up going bankrupt. Ubisoft (who was going to publish) had postponed the project indefinitely, which was a major one for Gorilla, and ultimately killed the company.
I did actually get to do some work with Mattel though for Hot Wheels games at the subsequent studio I worked for. :)

it's actually really awesome that this game went through the effort of not only having fully voiced names, but they went through the effort of including a massive, culturally cognizant list of 50k names so kids with uncommon or non-western names had a good chance of finally hearing their own name, spelled and pronounced correctly and and with dignity. that's a huge deal for kids, especially black, brown, and immigrant children, who have to deal with being bullied all their lives because their names don't sound white enough.
you don't realize how important names are until yours is continually mispronounced, misspelled, and outright mocked for not conforming to white/western standards.
names are a critical part of our identities, and respecting those names is a critical part of respecting the person it's attached to.

Clint where is the Barbie extravaganza! you should TOTALY set up ur barbie computer, ALL of your barbie games next to it) mayby whatever else you have that will match it, around ur pc, and make it really barbie themed, and do lots of barbie videos) that would be awesome! just accept and embrace it clint, do like a full history, retrospective about barbie games and other software on the PC with your barbie themed setup) or just use it as a silly background while you talk about something like doom, that would also be awesome) seeing an actual old pc with software, and mathcing stuff to when the software you talking about makes it SO much better, even the specific software is not barbie related, but related to the time period of 98 windows barbie.

I've always heard that the original Barbie was a gag-gift for men. But I recently heard that she was invented by some lady who named Barbie after her daughter and Ken after her son. Yes, Barbie and Ken are actually brother and sister. That probably explains why Blain was introduced: someone thought it was creepy that Barbie and Ken were siblings, but all the little girls had them getting married, and they eventually planned to reveal that Barbie and Ken were siblings for the next generation.

Barbie and Becky were actually wrong. Jake didn-t do anything wrong. It was Ken and he set everything up to frame Jake. Think about it. Ken has -all- of the charity money on him, he goes continently missing during a magic act, and he was found unharmed. That is way too many things that are suspiciously related to each other to be a coincidence.

God this was so fun to watch xD Barbie will haunt LGR forever calling his name xD
I know this video is old, but I have a kind of silly request: I want to extract the pattern archives from the 1996 Barbie Fashion Designer game, because the damn thing don't recognize my modern scanner/printer and I want those patterns for a project: '(

I loved playing this game as a kid but I was always frustrated by the naming system. For certain names they only use the International/French sounding pronunciation and there-s no option to change it. My name sounds like shit in French so I was always chose a random name instead. I still adore this game though. It-s one of my favorites.

One of my fondest memories of this game was playing through it with my little brother. When it was revealed that Jake was behind everything, my brother says -Jake, that asshole! -. He was like 6 years old lol, and our mom was standing nearby. XD We also used Barbie to call our dogs (our dogs always had human names.

I used to hate stuff like that the name list when I was younger because they never had my name or if they did it was on a boy's list (which I'm not. I always had to settle for -Nicole- which I'm not. So seeing my relatively obscure name included on the list gives me a weird kick as an adult.

I must know how did you get the game to work on your computer? I have the game since I was a kid but I cant get it to work at all on my computer. I've tried so many times to get it to work. It's a comfort game for me and I really want to play it again.
