Gameplay and overview of the seventh game pack for The Sims 4. What the heck is going on the town of StrangerVille? And why are all those wide-eyed sims ranting about a mother? Let's see!

Having finally played this- my thoughts (SPOILERS):
I was a bit disappointed that given the stranger things theming and general multi-sim style play the Sims is geared towards, they didn't have a way for multiple Sims in a household to work together and all get the hero achievement. I was also disappointed that the households with Sims often shown in the game artwork and footage weren't given appropriate careers and decoration in their rooms in a house when you started the game though this was more minor. Given the emotion system, I also found it frustrating there weren't emotions given for attempting to interact with possessed Sims- if they were freaked out by the vines in the toilet they should be even more freaked out by other Sims or especially friends/family acting weird.
I didn't mind the linear storytelling- it took longer if you made them actually work too which made me think about how characters in these stories often don't worry about keeping their jobs or basic things like eating. There's also a mod aspiration available to give you more of a reason to have someone undo this. I liked how big and dramatic the effects were once you kicked into the third stage especially- those crazy red clouds with lightning and the dust everywhere were pretty scary. The gameplay in the middle was a little repetitive though that's mainly bc I was trying it with multiple Sims

SPOILER ALERT
You missed one thing though. It adds a new death to the game: death by the mother plant. This can happen under two cases. if you attempt to fight the mother plant alone, you will fail and the game will warn you that she is too strong for you to fight alone. If you attempt to fight her again, you will. well. get devoured by the mother plant. One more way is if you're fighting the mother plant with your friends and you lose, you and all of your friends will become possessed and you will again -surprise surprise- get devoured by the mother plant. i find this especially interesting and i think the death is kind of graphic. Anyways. Dont expect much of strangerville because its a game pack, not a expansion pack. sure, if it were an expansion pack it would have been better, but thats something else. Basically strangerville is as good as any game pack goes.

after i solved the mystery i went back to the 8 Bells Bar where I was at for a lot of the game solving the mystery. I ordered my girl a gin and tonic and had to her dance to celebrate. It felt right bc she spent so much time there to finish off the story with a final celebration at the same bar. (still gonna play her tho i became attached to her from playing this pack lol) While still solving the mystery Love Day happened and her bf asked her on a date which I rejected bc too busy solving mysteries. I then felt bad and asked him on a date but he was like wow thanks. unenthusiastically when she gave him a gift, and he rejected her love day advances and made her embarressed so I dumped him on Love Day. fast forward to celebrating at the bar after they mystery is done - there she met and hit it off with a military guy. It was too perfect.

This pack reminds me of another Sims related game released in the past. A stand alone game.
Basically you are start off at this garage cause your car needs to be fixed; you go to this shop of sorts. Anyhow, there-s this woman there who gives you the key to this home she was living in, that is in this town.
There-s a werewolf that pops up around town at times and you got to solve that.
A villain character who is about town. A robot woman sim, the creator wants you to woohoo. Then later after being put under the villains control you have to go and disassemble her and the parts get scattered all over and later have to hunt them down. Just a town of mysteries and such.
But I-ll be darned if I remember it-s name. Was a interesting Sims game for sure. Never played it to completion though.
I think it was a PSP game release.

Sims 2 was my first sims game (then i bought sims 1 to see what the original was like, loved it too, and of course I had sims 3 which was excellent) so I have great memories and fondness of playing for entire days straight in that game as a kid and it makes me so unhappy that Sims 4 is just a husk. An empty shell missing all the vibrance and personality of the predecessors, why would you cannibalize a franchise like this when you already have the BEST previous iterations to pull from? EA is truly the worst, cash grabbing is all they do- which is why I refused to buy the Sims 4 (on launch day) until it was on sale 4 years later for $5. At this point I refuse to pay full price for anything Sims related because it's just a joke of it's former self and I can't be bothered.

this pack is very fun at the beginning. though. after you've finished the story, it's just. boring. I think they should've made the quests HARDER, the -risky- actions are also too easy. like the bug plantings are always successful, it's just weird. and you can gather all 15 evidences in the lab (no effort, right) and. it's just too easy. should've added mini traps to the lab, securities on the outside, and all the stuff which could make the pack harder, and way more enjoyable. personally I give it a 7. 5 since the world is unique and cool.

Jumping on the bandwagon of stranger things for profit. Probably would have made more money if they continued the original story line of the sims. I liked the alternate reality part because I felt like it was planned for something bigger. I am a sucker for mysteries and creepy things so seeing more detail and lore for strangetown and other mysteries from previous games would have been very interesting all while making it a life simulation because that-s what makes a sims game a sims game but that-s just my opinion.

Coming back to this a year later, i recently bought it during a sale (mainly for build items) but i actually enjoyed the storyline. But after that, the town and pack felt useless. It doesn-t mesh well with the rest of the sims 4 packs. I liked the mystery, but it was relatively easy and there-s no point in solving it again, since there-s really one outcome. It would have been cool to see it as a stand alone sims game like castaway, where the story would have a replay-able factor and more outcomes: /

See? When I played Strangerville, my first thought was not Stranger Things, but rather a storyline in the 1st Mass Effect game on a planet that has an alien flora called the Thorian that was slowly controlling the minds of the humans in the small colony. Strangervilles storyline and the story about the Thorian in Mass Effect are almost identical, both Mass Effect and Sims are owned by EA - and Mass Effect came out before Stranger things. I dunno. It's just eerily similar.

i really loved this pack! i loved the style of the desert mystery - reminds me of Beyond Two Souls when you have to defeat the desert spirit vibes (no spoiler - there is no desert spirit in sims 4) i loved all the clothes, all the weird town people and vibe, and i loved the furniture. my girl had the blonde dreds that came with this pack and I surprisingly only used one cc top and used some jeans and boots that came with the pack. I had a lot of fun with this one.
