Plunging the Depths of Christmas Steam Games

It's December! And that means Christmas Lazy Game Reviews. Or at least a pursuit of holiday games to cover, which this time are found deep within the bowels of the Steam Store. Are there are any free seasonal gaming gifts to be found on Valve's digital storefront? I don't know, but I have nog so let's find out! Jack: The last one is a pet peeve of mine, when devs mishmash a bunch of retro elements that make no sense together. The texture resolution is quite early 90s yet the models are way higher in polycount and the VHS effect makes no sense in this context, which gives you no sense of what it's meant to be, taking away immersion that should be key in a horror game.

re: the best Christmas games are additional content for or reskins of existing games, I think that can be chalked up to dedicated Christmas games generally being made as quick; cheap disposable entertainment by seemingly inexperienced or underpaid staff, while the reskins/expansions+DLC are made to be legitimate enjoyable demos or level packs/whatever by often the same people as the original game (or at least a team that is still decent at making games.
There's no reason a Christmas game _has_ to be bad or anything, but it seems few devs/studios want to make a real (for lack of a better term) Christmas game; perhaps because of the perception that Christmas games are exactly the thing I mentioned, or just the more pragmatic reason that people rarely have any interest in playing a Christmas game or even Christmas-themed content for a game out-of-season. I mean, at least a Halloween game would have appeal year-around to some extent.

you're the reason I got into retro computers and into 3d printing (partially, my architecture teacher is also to blame) I got a ender 3 and I'm planning on printing a callisto II from thingiverse and putting actual computer parts into it.
Here's five bucks towards me (maybe) making two and sending one to you!

It's from the 90's but a DOS game called Jetpack. It's on shareware sites, but the Christmas version is a little harder to find. In short, it's a Lode Runner clone that features a jetpack for traversing the level's harder to reach areas without ladders.

3: 02 Since when did Cave Story become a top-down RPG instead of a side-scrolling Metroidvania? Are they trying ride the coattails of Undertale, a game that was so heavily inspired by Cave Story that the two titles are literally synonyms of each other?

Yaaay: D Christmas LGR truly marks the holiday season is upon us! It became a tradition for me to rewatch, among others, the 90s Nonsense: the WizardWorks Holiday Collection CD-ROM video because it s just sooooo genuinely entertaining and jolly: D

Ah yes the Christmas clone. He can only cross over into this reality in December. Rest of the year he lives in the reality where all the missing socks from the dryer go and ecto cooler is always on the shelf at walmart along with crystal pepsi

That 3 yr old will always faintly remember that train game, and will spend a couple decades trying to find out what it was. I know. it happened to me as a kid with Cannon Fodder 2 lol. Took me 20 years to connect the dots.

Loved this Christmas LGR video! Never once looked into Christmas games on Steam but will definitely will now. Made me laugh so much when the video changed to you covered in lights hahaha! Thanks Clint for making my day!

You can always tell if it's a Christmas episode by the very start.
Still, I will be going through this list as you did and further explore. so possible thanks?
In any case, happy early holidays!

So LGR I hate Christmas and Christmas related things, can't explain it entirely but it's been like that for most of my life but I always look forward to your Christmas content. Thanks I suppose.

I was just driving home yesterday saying Christmasssssss in a weird voice and thinking when is LGR going to do a Christmas video.
It's like my Christmas prayers were answered

Check out Mission in Snowdriftland - it started as a Nintendo-commissioned webgame as a countdown to Christmas (Advent Calendar style) and then became it's own game. It's a good platformer.

I not sure why but that Christmas Horror game seems really familiar. It might just be that it looks like a lot of the first-person games that plague Steam's horror section these days.
