Here's Why We Never Got To See Gladiator 2
video description
Okay, kidding Im not, but I did email him, which obviously, the email doesnt go directly to him and was likely round filed.
Honestly, the sequel solution is pretty easy. Here goes:
This might be a stretch, but do we really know that Maximus was dead? How often do we here sensational, yet true stories of people that were thought to be dead, but they were just sleeping? Kidding, thought to be dead, but their vital signs were so weak, that they were thought to be dead? How many times do we hear real stories of people that are shot or stabbed several times that somehow, survive and make full recoveries. This isnt fantasy land, it really happens.
Granted, Im pretty sure they didnt have modern trauma centers back then and the likely solution would have been to bleed him more or put leaches on his wounds, its not too far fetched that he could have survived though. Obviously now, the story would take place years in the future, but in flashbacks we could see what really happened to him that fateful day. I would envision them carrying him off and laying him to rest and soon after its discovered that he is gravely wounded, but still alive. Perhaps it would be luscious and his mother saying their goodbyes and they discover hes alive. Maximus is on the brink of death, but is eventually nursed back to health over several months. Perhaps in secret because he still has enemies lurking? Finally as well as handing Rome back to the people, he also is Lucious mentor and adopted father? As Lucious grows into a brilliant fighter and leader, and after many years of peace, he calls on Maximus to once again help him defeat a scourge that threatens Rome and so on. mic drop!

The problem was, the producers didn't want to risk spending billions of dollars on a trilogy or beyond withoit knowing how popular it'd be, so they made the movie storu short. But when they realized how popular it actually was they wanted more profit. In other words, their greed got the best of them. Instead of making a good movie for sake of culture or entertainment, they made it for money.
No risk, no reward. The smaller the risk, the smaller the reward. You want more money, risk more money. If i were an actor or director or producer etc I'd do it for dirt cheap or even free if possible. I'd do it so that 100 years later people can watch tons of hours of good film and story. I'd do it for history, for culture, not money.

A sequel would be perfect. Before you answer lemme explain. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece of story telling like the first movie, it can be all over the place. What matters is the authenticity of the costumes, armour, helmets, hair styles and culture. And what matters more is the violence. I'm so sick and tired of these super hero movies sanitizing and watering down everything. Ridley Scott is the most bloodthirsty director in Hollywood; the way he filmed that deacon thing in covenant come out of the back of the man was disturbing. We need more of those violent scenes to offend millennials and left wingers. Gladiator 2 drenched in head cutting and blood shed would be a God send.

It's hypothetically possible that a Gladiator 2 could be made that might not be a vile abomination. but I can't see how.
A 20 years older Maximus who was dead at the end of the original film and, at the very least dying at the beginning of it would be completely pathetic.
A prequel with a deaged Russell Crowe. I won't even dignify that by finishing the
Any version of it directed by Ridley Scott would be worse than one directed by anyone else on the planet (including Uwe Boll - and I've seen Alone In The Dark.
Isn't it enough for him to wreck the Alien franchise?
What next? Is he going to make Thelma And Louise 2?

How original are you not entertained, Just change a word? The line was made famous by none other than Wild Bill Hickcock after he had killed a man. I forget Bill's exact words but it is along those lines. That's called ripping off history, but I did enjoy the movie, but it was too unbelieveable for me, for no mere mortal could resist that sweet little hotty throwing herself at him, I don't care how much he loved the wife. I'd a hit that so hard the bottom would get knocked out, or up yuk yuk yuk Sorry

Here's an idea. Instead of centering the story around Maximus, couldn't they have done a prequel about Proximo (the old guy who buys Maximus and became his coach/mentor? They could have shown the circumstances that led him to becoming a gladiator and his rise to fame and then freedom. Maybe even cast Gerard Butler as a young Proximo since he looks quite a bit like Russel Crowe.

I think the second movie could be set after maximus, s death like this: : the gladiator that says I will see you again about his family setting out to fight his way to freedom and return home to his family but finds out thay where killed by lucius as emperor and now with his family gone the gladiator goes on the hunt for revenge.

Because THE GLADIATOR is a SERIOUS movie, not a just a mere money-milking-cow for hollywood liberal bonzo's and like with EVERY SERIOUS MOVIE - there's just ONE OF THEM. That's the same reason for which there will never be a SECOND - THE USUAL SUSPECTS or a SECOND GOODFELLAS or a SECOND A BRONX TALE.

You could have a sequel, just as maximus trys to open the gate into the next life he goes to push it open and realises its padlocked.
Then he comes rushing back into this life with his ex sitting on his face naked.
That would be the start of the next story of Maxipuss and the seductress great title also.

Gladiator was simply a tital given to people fighting in the arena so they could use another fighter. The real problem they face is making a story to top the masterpiece they made. Trying to top Gladiator will be a nearly impossible gole but one worth trying to reach if you have the right people involved
