Movie Flops That Hollywood Was Sure Would Be A Hit aemilius: Wow when you read and hear the reasons for why many of these movies where flops you seriously start to doubt the movie industry. Maybe they should look beyond the US for success, because it seems moral virtue signaling of social justice warriors can derail movies, or pathetically high expectations or whiner baby fans. It's so sad to learn what reasons caused some of these movies to flop, some actually had nothing to do with the quality of the production or anything related to the content of the movie. Reasons like the character acted like a stereotype or there were critics about the political views of the director or one of the actors or the movie was marketed wrong or was released around the same time of a marvel movie. Seriously the film industry is doomed if this pathetic reasoning continues. Many of the movies mentioned were actually decent or quite good.
Another example of an industry where political ideological moral signaling should be banned. Political ideology seems to lead to fallacious reasoning everywhere I go.

well no matter what the money says. I think John Carter is a great movie (it will most likely become a cult film in 20 years time for it's originality in a number of combinations, the Lone Ranger is an awesome film - I wish there would be more movies like that, Fantastic 4 is well done (but just yet another sci fi superhero film adaptation of old comic series that i spent my entire childhood life watching as a cartoon. amongst thousands now. Jupiter Ascending kinda sucks - however the film is epic and also has all the hallmarks of a future cult movie as there were ideas, topics, scenes crated that have never been made anywhere before in film history! What an exciting film from, this time, the Wachowski sisters!

The main problem I read about Mars Needs Moms was that the CGI system used did very well when it came to trees and rocks and buildings but failed when it came to human faces. The faces, according to the article, came out looking like everybody was wearing cheap rubber halloween masks.
The test audiences liked the storyline but, the CGI creeped them out. This system was used for another movie, which likewise creeped out the audience, then the system was retired and never used again.

The Lone Ranger would have had to make twice the money any Western in history ever has just to break even. It was still the 14th highest grossing ever according to IMDB, and their definition of 'Western' is so broad it includes Back to the Future 3 and Zorro movies. It never had a realistic shot at being profitable on that budget.

John Carter- actually pretty good -- Battleship, a really good Peter Berg directed movie - but they should have called it something else, had no relation to the classic game, very confusing -- Ender's Game was good too, but nowhere near as epic as the Book, and people had waited a while for it

Great vid. I am going to have to say, I thought john carter was decent, and a lot of fun. Was it Shakespeare? no. it was just marketed horribly (I did not even know it was a sci-fi flick until like a year later) - I mean, even the name should have been John Carter of Mars or something.

Disney screwed up twice:
The Lone Ranger opened the same weekend as Despicable Me 2, a much better family film
John Carter should have used it's full title Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter of Mars so people knew where the source material came from.

I know these videos can be fun but why should anybody care if movies that they like made millions or billions of dollars. I think of movie flops as Bad Movies not Unpopular ones. I would guess that a lot if not most of my Top 100 films were not that popular.

The problem with Ender's Game is that the kid who is supposed to be the hero is psychotic. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford etc are despicable. They use a mentally ill child to commit murder by telling him it's a video game. That's sick.

Factors why are those movies mentioned are flopped:
1. Title
2. teleporting from earth to other planet
3. Never include Channing in a Sci Fi movie
4. Make Johnny Depp as the main star. not a co star
