Having said that, Tim Curry absolutely killed it in the 1990 miniseries. If I had to choose between him and Skarsgard, I would probably choose him, but I love the hell out of both of them.
Their portrayals of Pennywise just give off different vibes imo.
That said, Tim was the only thing that kept the movie afloat (pun intended); the chemistry between the child losers, while kind of cute I guess, struck me as too cheesy and an unrealistic portrayal of the losers in the book.
In the book Bev smokes, Richie swears like a sailor, big Bill, although their friend, feels conflicted and believes he may be subconsciously using them to help exact revenge on It for George.
Tbh, I think the miniseries losers struck me as a tad _childish_ in a way that the reboot losers didn't.
I find the new losers had great chemistry, and I think that making It an R-rated movie ultimately worked in their favour as far as believable interactions go.
I like both versions, but as someone who didn't see the 1990 back in it's hayday I believe I might be less clouded by nostalgia then some others who criticize the newer versions.
Sure, they have their flaws, and maybe Chapter 2 wasn't _terrifying_ but I still think it did a better job and was more loyal to the books than the 1990 version.
Just my thoughts though, no need to take me seriously.

IT 2017 sucked. The story, characters, and atmosphere was generic, rushed, artificial, and shallow. The entire movie is nothing but waiting for tension exxaggerated music and then some lame boo jump scare. Again and again. And they were not even good. The movie has very little replay value. If you watch it once, it feels like a chore once you see how predictable and shallow it is. The only decent character was the redhead girl who was the best character in the film. IT himself looked menacing but you didnt feel it. It was too exxaggerated and try hard. My entertainment of this film was actually how funny it was even though it tries so hard to be scary and menacing hahah. I did enjoy laughing. They couldve done much better.
You see IT 2017 once. Nothing memorable. But its skipable film. Very disappointed. I thought itd be one of the better modern horrors. Worse disappoint since Annabelle. Give it no more than a 6. 5/10

if one more person calls the original a mini series, it was two parts like it is in the 2017 version and 2019 version the first tape was a movie and so was the second mini series arent as long as feature films and im so sick of how uneducated people are on the 1990 version but feel like they can call it a mini series and disrespect it like that. the original it was a masterpiece that had kids terrified to take showers, and go in litterally any dark room. what the original did to me as a kid makes the remake laughable, and i was disappointed in the second half of the remake when they left out some of the most chilling parts and about how non of them could have kids because of the interactions they had with pennywise almost like a curse, they changed the fears and they really just missed the mark on it. overall great movie, but very disappointed at how lazy they were with this remake. ITS NOT A MINI SERIES

The original is absolutely appaling. Tim Curry is a good actor. The script was horrible. One of the worst movies I have ever watched. Beverly has red hair, not brown. Neibolt is a house not a sewer. They were on summer break, none of the occurrences happened in the school. Mr. Marsh didn't work at the school, he worked in a hospital. Pennywise's suite was silver, not blue and yellow. There were changes in the new one, but I don't think they changed the overall movie. They didn't even try to film a good movie in the miniseries, it was corny. Pennywise most certainly wasn't a jubial kind of clown like in the miniseries. He didn't come out of a shower. A balloon didn't explode out of the drain. They didn't hurt him with an inhaler. He didn't tell corny ass jokes. Pennywise is supposed to be horrifying, not something you would see in a circus.

The new movie totally missed out on being what I think Stephen King intended for the book, a monster book/movie where Pennywise is the ringleader. Gone are the mummy, Frankenstein monster, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc. They could've revamped the classic movie monsters into something more disturbing and horrific. I enjoyed they included the leper from the book, but how he's introduced there is way better than the movie: where he comes out from a basement window in the house on Neibolt St, looking too horrifically injured to be alive but still offering Eddie a blowjob. Even though the movie might have more blood, it's still de-fanged.

I like the original better. The casting was definitely better. Jonathan Brandis played Bill convincingly, both his vulnerability, the stutter but also determination as the leader of the group. His pain from losing Georgie was more palpable. The kid who played Ben was infinitely more convincing and likable than the one playing the 2017 character. That goes for all of the characters. I just really think the 1990 cast worked better in many ways. I also found the scares grittier and less stylized in the original version. The only thing that is dated are some of the special effects.

I think the music in the remake is way better. Back when the original came out, that's what kids voices sounded like and that's what creepy music sounded like. But watching it now, the music doesn't fit. In the remake, the creepy sounds of children singing edited enough to make you know that pennywise is appearing is just awesome. It fits well, it terrifies almost everyone, and it sounds more modern. I think they did incredibly well with making the remake scary

The first is more like the clown does things, but only the children can see what happens. Sorry people but the 1990 is something that you would come across in real life, costume was of the time. John Wayne Gecy Jr. Was still fresh in everyone mind. The one in 2017 was something you would come across in dreams. A real killer is always someone that most thought of as a normal, for the most part. You sure did not see Ted Bundy wear Victorian dress style clothes.

TBH the 2017 remake scary events is all based on thee Regional IT but those parts were more decked out and twisted! Like for example LOT more blood! But what i think the scarest parts of the 2017 remake is when the group of friends first went into the wellhouse. And when Beverly tricked out metal rod right through the side of pennywise's head! Omg and ITs facial expression was between his actual real appearance and his nice luring clown face OMG though.

I watched the 1990 IT when I was 8 years old and two scenes stuck with me forever. Pennywise in the picture book pointing at the kids and running toward them then reaching his hand through the book - and - the clown nose/blood bubble coming out of the sink and popping at Beverly. I did like the projector scene in 2017 better than the 1990 picture book, but I thought the bloody sink was waaaay overdone in the 2017 version
