What Star Wars Movies Really Look Like Without Special Effects Robert: I'm grateful I got to see in theater, the true movie innovation that was Episode IV. coming as it did in 1977, when the next closest thing was old star trek episodes and even worse dreck, star wars was a gigantic leap over anything that came before it. It was the best movie experience imaginable, and even better, you got to share the sheer delight of the film with the amazed crowds of theater goers. Today of course, Episode IV does not seem any big deal even to kids who haven't seen it before. But the amazing sound, visual effects, modelwork and space craft (george wanted space ships that were like cars - people started them up, drove them somewhere, and didn't talk about what an unusual thing they were doing) made for unforgettable movie magic. Now the whole thing's just a franchise, put out by people who don't know and don't care how to duplicate Episode IV and just ratchet the movie quality up and down (mostly down, of course) and crank out another installment every two to three years just to keep the multi billion dollar product line going. When even Hamill says publicly the magic's gone it's impossible for me not to feel the heart-felt disappointment along with him.

Can I Just say, the first 3 minutes of this video is proof ( and im sure there is more to observe ) the original trilogy has such a strong and tangible affinity with fans and critics because there is such a incredible creative process behind them. Not only does it show, but we must be reminded that we are Humans and not droids, we can feel and sense the amount of innovation and that fascination behind pushing the limits of story telling, it is what has drawn us to the Star Wars saga. I picture the innocents of early fans like the Ewoks in Return Of the Jedi when C-3P0 told them the story of their epic adventure against Darth Vader. Sadly the fan culture is now completely toxic and the movies are massed produced, no longer pushing any boundary other than making us feel unconformable with cringe: (

I actually didn't think Tarkin was as convincing as he could have been. My heart sank because it seems like they were almost there, but the effect was obvious. I showed the film to someone who didn't know much about Star Wars or who Tarkin was, and he found it just plain weird. The actor who did the motion capture looked so much like Peter Cushing, makeup and prosthetics would have provided a more convincing rending. My sense is that legal issues stemming from Back to the Future Part II has made studios weary of recasting a character and dramatically transforming them to look like someone else to closely. Anyway, the effect does show promise, just a shame they didn't seem to care about it's shortcomings.

Only George Lucas can make Star Wars cool. And he did it so well, But Disney screwed it all up, And well they are good at that There is no way of saying make Star Wars great again. Since it is crashing in a ball of flames And missed the point on George Lucas made those movies, I did get point from Lucas, First story then flash like special effects. But what do I know since do remember the summer of 77 I am fan of what old George Lucas did.

Talk to the puppet, The puppet sess, maybe the star wars fan never say anything fantastic, maybe that's why they keep on making crappy star wars movies because of they don't know anything what a good movie should be like. Ya, ya, ya maybe that why! Talk to the puppet, or maybe they're targeting the younger generation and thinking they wouldn't know any different. YA, YA, YA maybe that's why!

as a kid I didn't care much about that but was somewhat astonished to see the practical effects. Nowadays I am completely mind-blown by this. I even bought an excellent book about all the practical models of Star Wars and one can clearly see that it paved the way for modern movie making in many ways. The incredible thing is: Even to today's standards the models and scenes of the OT look great

I stopped watching when he said last jedi.
I Don't try to complain about starwars often I actually love the prequels I love the Originals I love Rouge one but The Last jedi was awful! It's story was awful and they made Luke for some reason go way out of character. I don't hate starwars I just Hate the last Jedi

bummed me out as a kid when episode 2 and 3 came out that they didnt use practical effects also the fact that all the clones were CGI. that was a huge bummer, the reason why starwars 4 5 and 6 were so captivating besides the story was the fact that it was all practical effects.

And it's because Grievous expressed emotions with arm/hand movements and frequent tilting of his head that makes him look like an obvious CG character.
C-3P0 also has no facial expressions, but didn't need to rely on being so animated to convey emotion.
