As far as Thanos being passive at the beginning, it's no different to the Collector and Grandmaster (played by Jeff Goldblum) in a later film, he was utterly passive - giving orders, why assume he was a bad ass? It's not a new concept.

My idea of how Yondu's Arrow works is that the whistle activates the tech grafted to his head proof being it turns red when he first whistles, it then allows him to control it with his mind he has to continue whistling to keep the implant active and change in pitch gives the device different commands much like how you use a keyboard and mouse with a computer to give the computer different commands like how he whistle to set in on fire in 2 or how he causes it to approach and hover close the curators face while he is questioning him in 1.

Well the thing is electronics in the 1980s where built pretty good and if it was a Japanese company it was made in Japan at that time. It wasn't like electronics today where they are planned to fail, so they can sell you a new one and if the company was Japanese the device is made in China. Apple is good for that if its not the device itself its the software make the device fail. I have a nearly 26 year old N-64 that plays just like the day it was bought in 1994 the games even play without failure.

Did we as children question the aerodynamics of the baby pachyderm? Did you ever consider just watching the adventure and enjoying getting lost in the story, the fantasy the imagination? As for Thanos, he's like a mob boss. How many times do you see mob bosses, in movies, doing all of the heavy lifting? The Lazy Thanos fact is wrong, he sent out smaller villains because at that time odin was alive and he was the only who could defeat thanos. Apart from that thanos also sent out smaller villains so that no one could suspect that someone is trying to collect all the stones.

technically, any magnetic tape soaring through space would be erased immediately due to magnetic forces that occur naturally in deep space, just the cosmic neutrinos would destroy the magnetic recording- he would be better off using a CD player or an MP3.
