Definitely scrap Alien 3 and Resurrection (4) because they dont make any sense and were simply terrible scripts that should have never been produced. I would love to see an actual sequel to Camerons Aliens. More space ships, more military, more discovery and fleshing out the derelict ship, maybe even discovering more types of aliens within the derelict.
Prometheus was really cool, but I wish it wasnt related to Aliens because it kills some of the mystique. Covenant was another POS script used as a cash grab by Hollywood to bank on the name.
Anyways, again, a real Alien 3 would be my wish. If wishes are being granted, how about a sequel to The Thing as well?

People should let Aliens go, it was a fluke. James Cameron has, because, obviously, he doesn't give a shit anymore. He got to make Titanic. Not nearly as good a film, but, Aliens didn't get nominated for nine thousand awards, like Melodramatic People on Boat that Hit the Iceberg did. If Blomkamp wanted to do an Alien film, he should've made it like District: 9 Versus Chappie, notice how all these badass androids (Bishop, David, Ash, etc) always show up in these movies, but, none of the directors think: Wow, maybe those badass androids that keep getting written into all of these Alien movies, could do something like FIGHT THE ALIENS. Asimov's law does cover the possibility of alien lifeforms threatening human beings, doesn't it? So far, all the Alien android-guys seem capable of doing is standing off to the side and letting their programming fry (causing 'mecha-insanity', I guess) or getting their synthetic asses all tore up because nobody thought to say: I bet Bishop is strong enough and fast enough to rescue Newt, plus, he'll be able to make sure any nasty alien surprises GET DEAD AND STAY DEAD, because he's fast and strong, and super-duper smart, like Data from 'Star Trek: the Next Generation, and you know be able he to take the time to track down any weird alien queens that could, like, crap a bunch of eggs out their butt-sacs.

I enjoyed Covenant and Prometheus before it, but can admit to being as underwhelmed by them as I was with Alien 3. Alien Resurrection was truly disappointing, and got a bit weird. I remember as a 10 year old in '79 thinking that Alien was sheer greatness, and that (many years later when I was a teen) ALIENS built upon that greatness almost effortlessly. I also personally feel that the video game Alien Isolation should be considered canon in the Alien universe. It takes place about 10 years after Alien, stars Ellen Ripley's daughter, Amanda (mentioned in the director's cut and novelization of Aliens, and is a truly scary game to play, with a good story that is worthy of the franchise. What the game does really well is maintain that 1979 look with the (now dated) tech that lined the Nostromo in the sire film. The game is designed to look as if it were a sequel film that could have been made in '80 or '81, and along with the gameplay that does not disappoint, was delivered in bang-on, scary fashion.

All these ideas are bad. Prometheus and Covenant ruin the entire idea of the alien. There is no point in more sequels if they have to respect these two. There is also no point in more Ripley films, or choosing a new protagonist for the franchise. This is shrinking the idea of space. One of the things Alien did so well was to make space appear to be appropriately vast, which then made the situation all the more isolating when it went wrong. The vastness of space itself was terrifying. Every film that ties a particular person to the creature makes space more and more like a sit-com neighbourhood. It's just going to be like all the Terminator films after T2, which should never have happened, and there shouldn't have been any more Alien films after Aliens either. Every step they take forward only hurts the original films, which are seeing their status gradually tarnished by all of this sprawl.

I liked Resurrection, most of all Aliens of course (yes, I love action not horrors, 1st one was OK, 3rd - somewhat dull, but OK, Prometheus - cool design, pretty actresses, good music, but it was a piece of shit, Covenant, haven't seen it, but everything indicates it's the worse of them all.
So, a prequel. Well, it's possible, but I'd love to have two things ensured, to that movie not suck badly 1) keep Ridley Scott away form it; 2) no humans - only Engineers and Xenomorphs. It could actually be an animated movie, just not something cheap like Dead Space stories.
P. S. If someone brings back Hicks and Newt, make it Earth War storyline then. Show remains of human civilization struggling against bugs on their own planet. Or alternatively, Ripley. Well. her Alien hybrid clone is still alive after Resurrection, so. There is pretty wide space for choices.

The problem was how Cameron changed the mysterious extremely dangerous life form into a unsophisticated pack animal with convenience acid blood properties. The introduction of the Queen flattered to deceive, however the films box office and critical success made this cannon. Alien 3 represented an attempt to wrestle the Alien back to being scary. Any new film news to follow on from the original or it will surely fail. It needs to start out like the original with a good script creating atmosphere, suspense and fear. The shuttle could be picked up by a ship in the outer rim and an egg could be deposited inside the conduits and found by a repair crew.

oh it was not the alien that was scary. even in alien and aliens.
its never about the monster mate.
its about the atmosphere, alien was terrifying because it was powerful stealthy and deadly, they did not have weapons to kill it and they were clearly outmatched, they were stuck on a space ship with zero chance of rescue or escape (yes escape pod was there but it was a risky escape as in there was a good chance they would die in space) combine all this and u have urself some horror.
