This Is How Actors Really Fake Cry Derek: This is refreshing to hear someone use method acting in the proper context. Back in Shirley Temples day, Hollywood had not yet painted the style as someone constantly staying in character. That is not Method, that is something different entirely. Method acting could refer to many different styles, depending on who taught it. The most common is probably Lee Strasberg, who taught about emotional recall. That is what Daniel Radcliffe said Gary Oldman taught him.
As an actor, my acting style I find most helpful for crying is Meisners technique. It is somewhat of the anti-Method. It calls for character connection, and attaching imaginary circumstances to your scenario.
Method/Recall = Thinking about an actual dead relative
Meisner/Imagination = Thinking about a living relative as if they were dead
It is a lot less emotionally straining of a style, if you ask me. No need in opening up old wounds.

Before watching Marley & Me, I could never cry during the sad scenes in various films such as Mufasa's death in The Lion King or the death of Artax in The Never Ending Story. However, ever since my beloved cat Sagwa died on October 8, 2015, all I have to do these days is think about my beloved mama's girl and I'm instantly crying. I actually made myself cry within 8 minutes of this video by thinking about my Sagwa. She died exactly 20 days before her 13th birthday.

Well. After seeing this video, I tried to cry. results: Some tears came out and I literally had red eyes and they were tickling. My wife though I was in pain when I showed my red eyes. When I told her I faked crying, she went all women again like You are not a good actor while 10 seconds before she though I had a huge problem due to my teary red eyes.

When you have empathy and you're able to put yourself into someone else's shoes and tap into what they might be feeling, it's very easy to cry on command. Especially if you have anxiety, then you can just let the waterworks fly and pretend that you weren't just having a panic attack

They used the menthol spray on Natalie Portman while filming Leon: The Profesional. She hated it so much she taught herself at 12 to cry on cue to avoid it. (She cried for real in her first scene with Gary Oldman due to him being so intimidating)

. they think about another black president?
. imagine Rosie and Ellen scissoring.
. listen to EDM and say they like it?
. think about Will Smith ruining another movie.
That would make me cry.

I have always heard that the scene from fresh prince was ad-libbed and that He got emotional because his dad had left him in real life, not because of another actor drilling him.

A good option: before filming an emotive scene, watch a sad film. Like Precious, The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas, Schindler's List, Rwanda or Sophie's Choice, among many others

Use Joey from Friends method. Cut a small hole in your pant pocket and reach through it with a pair of tweezers and start yanking out pubic hairs. Seems like a solid plan.

If an actor needs trickery to cry, than they are not an actor. True actors find truth in their performance. If you can't actually cry, you don't deserve your paycheck.
