Small Details You Missed In The Hellboy Red Band Trailer Politely: Details I missed in the new Hellboy trailer:
Ron Pearlman
Guillermo Del Toro's Legit Directing Skills
Abe/Doug Jones
Actual Hellboy facial expressions
Puppeteered creatures/less-obvious CGI.
Character design that looks like Mignola's work, instead of a joke caricature
A non-generic villain
A sense of Real Danger
Abs that don't look like rubber when you slouch
Seriously, his face has two settings. Can he make more faces than those?
. Don't get me wrong. I love the jokes in this trailer. A big highlight of the franchise is the easy-going but dark humor. Yet I feel like they're trying to bump off the success of Deadpool here; there's too much humor and not enough Hades. The new actor can emote- his vocal inflections are decent, and he stays in motion. But the lack of face movement is. offputting.
The CGI is not bad CGI, and some of the shots look fantastic. I love the vision they had here. But it just doesn't beat the Creature Shop for the sense of real dimension and space. Not to mention, Witchy Lady is scary for. some reason? Do we actually fear her? Hellboy looks like he could crush her with a hug, and her temptress act doesn't sound like it's holding up.
All in all though, the killer for me is still the rating. Of course it will be dark, but how large was the side of the following that demanded an R-rated finale to a PG-13 series? Sure it's a gritty underground comic, but considering how much of its present audience found it through these films, does it really do it justice closing it out with a flick too hardcore for the younger or milder fans to enjoy?

Everyone's hung up on Pearlman and Del Toro. Those movies were an (enjoyable) mess. Did everyone forget the drunken sing-along that lasted the WHOLE SONG? Or the absolutely shit portrayal of Johann Krauss, or Abe's totally fabricated psychic powers? Or Hellboy and Liz being romantically involved?
That said - this movie doesn't look great. It looks like a Transformers-level edgy beat-em-up with added adult humor. It doesn't look anything like the nuanced and thoughtful Hellboy stories I know and love. I know Mignola has been more involved, but I am incredulous that THIS is what he had in mind for a film.

They should have kept the original Hellboy actor, or got someone with atleast a deeper voice. They guy did a perfect Hellboy. This guy doesn't have the feel at all at being Hellboy. I feel like they threw a comedian in his place, just the wrong character. Plot seems better, but character much shittier.

Hm. Don't really like the new look of Hellboy. And he also seems just a bit too lax. The film itself seems to hold to the comics more closely than the other Hellboy movies, but also seems to be missing something that the others had. Kinda on the fence about it at this point.

In the beginning of the redband trailer, where it is showing the aerial view of the island where Hellboy is summoned, there is something to the left of the island and slightly above it that seriously looks like Mario floating in the air. Anyone else catch that?

David Harbour Pretty much a no name. Frankly i have never enjoyed any of his performances. Hellboy without Ron Perilman will be a flop in my opinion. Perilman MADE all the difference in both Hellboy movies. Big mistake not having him in Hellboy 3

Mike Mignolla the creator of Hellboy) actually based the physical looks of Hellboy on Ron Pearlman. and I love Ron, but that being said I will give this movie a chance. It look like it has the potential to be really good and I hope it is.

I saw one Chinese man in the Hellboy's trailer. For anyone who knows about Hellboy's stories, is there a Chinese man in the Hellboy's comic?

Ron Perlman did a phenomenal job as Hellboy. Will David Harbour do as well? Hmmmm. We'll see. I keep waffling between liking him and not.

I just remembered: this Hellboy actor said he'd punch people like me in the head, so, screw him and this movie. Poor casting.
