The problem wasn't really how it ended, but it's how we got there. The buildup was barely there and it didn't make sense to fans of the show. The best example of this is when Daenerys burns King's Landing, which is apparently 'her decent into madness'. There was barely any buildup aside from her friend dying and a few lines that were very dictator-ish. That's why people were upset: because it didn't make sense and the show did not do a good job explaining these things. It's important to know that the writers also declared to finish the season in only 6 episodes when they were offered 10. Some James Bond shit if you ask me. These are writers who wanted to finish up the series as quickly as possible so that they could move on to Star Wars, whatever the project may be. Everyone besides the writers gave it their all, including the actors, the directors, props and costumes, sets, CGI artists. everyone but the writers, and since writing is arguably the most important part of any film or TV show, that is not a good thing.

Firstly, the opinions of people contractually bound to say or not say certain things are not news worthy and are always moot.
The point is not to have the season redone. The point is to speak out as a consumer to those who produce content and let them know what you find acceptable. In western/capitalist societies, it is the job of the consumer to state what they want and reward companies appropriately for the goods and services they render.
When you are satisfied, say so. When you are dissatisfied, say so. Saying why also helps from both sides of this coin. It is each of our jobs as the consumer to voice our opinions.
The petition is question calls out poor writing quality, story pacing, character development, historical accuracy (or the departure thereof, and realism in some cases (physics are completely ignored in some cases. It has nothing to do with what ultimately happened. Some parts of what happened where not fleshed out or explained properly, but that's a different arguement altogether.

Entertainers forget that their job is to entertain, entertainment will always be criticized as being enjoyable or not. The heavily negative criticized ending of GoT isnt towards any of the cast or art of the show, its solely aimed at the writing of David Benioff & D. B. Weiss. Metaphorically speaking, were not upset with the server, but with the cook for making us st food after waiting ever patiently. D&D knew good and well that they were rushing through their story, they left plot holes un-filled and left characters out that needed closure, they simply rushed and took the easy way out through the emergency door and the negative public criticism is the alarm that they knew would follow. Theres not a doubt in my mind that when Weiss and Benioff write their StarWars movies that its going to be a hail storm for them to walk through in trying to gain favoritism in possible viewership, remember, a lot of Game of Throne fans also enjoyed StarWars, well see how wobbly that bridge will be for D&D moving forward.

The fans made the show a success and GoT has one of the biggest and most loyal fanbases. You don't have to shit on the fans because we were unhappy with the lackluster writing that went into the finale. And here's some facts, season 7 alone had an average of 10 million viewers. The petition to redo season 8 got 1 million signatures within a day after the finale. And I imagine that the number of disgruntled fans is much higher than the 1 million+ who signed considering the anger on internet and reviews. If the majority of the fan base is unhappy, it's not a you can't please everyone issue, it's a you couldn't please anyone with that issue. And I'm sure the fans are more than aware we will never get a redo; however, the petition shows how betrayed and hurt we were with the finale's anticlimactic state

I really did love all of the episodes of season 8. All of the crew, actors and everyone else who was involved did a fantastic job. Unfortunately it just felt like we were missing several episodes. I just felt like it was unfinished is all. I dont think its a crazy big deal but still disappointed nonetheless. We are allowed to have an opinion and it just so happens that a majority feels the same. We are just used to the great detail that GOT gives us and this time, it just felt like a lot was cut to compensate for a time crunch? Or just had to sacrifice a lot of detail for the sake of just wrapping it up in 6 episodes. All I wished for is that GRRM get his dream of seeing his full vision of his baby come to life the way he intended and unfortunately according to his interviews that I have seen, that did not happen sadly. I really just felt bad for him In one of his interviews he even stated that he wanted 10-12 seasons and said that D&D I guess they wanted life.

Anybody with half a brain would realize that there is no other way that the series could have ended. It is the perfect ending. There is no way you could let Daenarys live after she murdered so many innocent people. Once John Snow killed her, and he was the right person to do so, there is no way he could have ruled on the iron throne. You either had to exile him or execute him. It is perfect that Arya went off on her adventures. This is so appropriate for her, and Sansa going back to the North was also perfect. What is wrong with everyone? Did you want some sort of tizzy Hollywood ending? How inappropriate! It is also brilliant that the Iron Throne was destroyed which was what the whole serious was about and then ushered in the beginnings of democracy! It was so perfect that the reason for the whole story, the Iron Throne, died when it ended. Get a life. everyone! Brilliant. the writers!

To Sophie Turners comment about season 8 of GoT keeping in line with having twists and turns that the show is known so well for, I can confidently say that the only twist in season 8 was that it was bland, rushed, and had an ending that felt more like a hallmark movie than a tried and true gut-wrenching game of thrones ending. There was no real basis that the writers could go off of since the books havent been finished, but the entire last episode alone felt like two completely different themes being jammed together for the sake of getting to the end result of Bran as king. The film crew, actors and writers are smart people but they completely missed the mark with this season and shouldve taken more time or even entertained third party opinions to make the last season sensible and cohesive with the prior 7 seasons and books.

Sophie is right, they are artists, and the fans should just appreciate what they do. Nothing ever ends the way we want all the time, that's life. I actually like the story line, I just wish it was longer. For eight seasons everyone was in love with the dragon queen and just like that, she turns into a monster, isn't that just like our own politicians, and also almost every world leader, Hitler, Stalin, Castro, etc. These monsters were loved too by the people they burned. And think of this, who followed Daenerys after she went nuts, the ignorant Dothraki and the guys with no balls. Sansa was my favorite character and she became Queen of the North, long may she reign. And thank you Sophie for the great performance to you and all the actors and people who created my favorite show.

Sophie completely misses the point. No one criticizes the casting, performances or effort (all magnificent. But good writing is different from bad writing. The season was rushed. Characters deserved more nuanced endings. Jaime and Cersei, after their amazing character arcs, deserved more than a final hug amidst falling rubble. Danys change to tyrant was too sudden and unbelievable. Sure Bran has abilities but viewers needed some indications that he possessed leadership skills before buying the tame acceptance of him as ruler. And so forth. .. The whole debate over dont attack Kings Landing - youll kill people was inane. Of course you go after the enemys power center, minimizing casualties as best you can. The writers did well in some areas - dialogue was often excellent
