The Original Rogue One Ending Would've Changed Everything Brydon: The reason Rogue One works so well is because the characters have their own story to tell, one tiny moment in the overall saga carried out by a ragtag group all bringing their own skills to the table, giving all they have for the mission. It shows what the stakes are in the fight against the Empire and the sacrifices that are needed in order to win. Giving Jyn and Cassian a 'happy ending' would've belittled the contributions of the others and taken away from what made the film and the characters so good.
Disney and Lucasfilm need to take note of what made Rogue One stand out: the originality. We were introduced to all new characters, a new story, new stakes, which gives the writers and director far more freedom and liberty to tell more compelling stories. Anyone watching the film will expect at least Jyn to survive, since she is the lead (we didn't see her in the original trilogy, but it's a big universe and the older character could well pop up in the sequel trilogy, but having her die shows that the studios are open to taking risks. Solo was weak because we know three of the main characters will survive without a scratch. The same goes for the other proposed stand alones for the likes of Obi-Wan, we know nothing will happen to him, so any suspense they try to build with putting him in danger just doesn't exist (plus he's already been in six films and three animated series, I can't imagine there's much more to do with the character.

That whole 2 min scene with Vader at the end was awesome. The best scene in the whole of Disney Star Wars.
The one thing that annoyed me about Rogue One though was the scene they left out of the Tie Fighter coming up behind Jyn on the platform.
It was in the trailer and would've been epic on the big screen. Really pissed me off when they left that out.
Ridley Scott did the same in Alien Covenant when they are hunting the xenomorph on the ship and it has the scene where the Alien is jumping from wall to wall towards the Danny McBride and the woman before they shut the door. That would've been epic as well.
Hate it when they do that.

There might have been an alternate ending written for Rogue One, but there was NO alternate ending written by George Lucas in his original Star Wars story line. Mon Mothma clearly says how obtaining the Death Star came at a great cost. That told you right then there that no one survived per George Lucas. Rogue One had the correct ending which remained true to Lucas's original story. I'm certain Lucas would tell you it was NEVER his intention that the rebels stealing the plans would survive.

As much as I liked the ending, Disney really missed out on a gold mine chance for a gritty war story new trilogy. It would have been fantastic if at least some of the team had lived and we could have seen more story happen during the story we had seen. What if Rogue One team had survived and were essential in the Rebel Escape off of Hoth and perhaps major conflicts with the main fleet while Luke was on Dagobah and Han and company were on Bespin. Sad they missed a golden opportunity.

Rogue One HAD to End the way it did. Otherwise the very first Star Wars Ep 4, really means nothing as far as the story of Star Wars goes. I always believed when first movie was Ep 4 and upon hearing the line A lot of Good People Died for this Information Lucas always intended to make rogue one. BUT is the span of time irl that it took to make the OG Trilogy, Audiences were not Really Ready to invest in franchise movies where main characters died.

Rogue One is the best of the Disney era SW. But puting these heroes into OT would be like creating bad fanfic - hijacking the original with an one (or a bunch) of OCs and pushing out the main characters out of their spot - what would be the point of it? Disney already made Leia bully Luke in a children cartoon.

A lot of ifs. Lets get real. When you have imbeciles like Kathleen Kennedy running the show, and whomever the moron was who hired her around. These idiots would not have seen the potential of letting Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, or Saw Guerrera survive even if they rubbed the real Aladdins Lamp

It's pretty solid and most people know that Disney and Lucasfilms make bad Star Wars movies. It's like hey George this is Disney. Want to make bad Star Wars movies and still make Disney dollars. George, yeah sure can my kids have artistic touches that make the movies even worse. Disney. Sure.

Disagree, Jyn Erso was not a soldier, she was more of a spy/operative, most of what we see in the original trilogy was the combat arm of the Rebellion. If they'd have survived Jyn and co would have been off doing covert ops somewhere, sourcing the equipment used at Hoth, not fighting there.

Too many non-whites in Rogue One, what were they thinking? There was only one black man in the whole of the original trilogy, then another black man in the prequel trilogy, and suddenly we have blacks and asians everywhere. It just seems so unbelievable.
