my theory is that arthur fleck is the real joker, and then he does the same thing one joker did to tim drake getting a young cop ( maybe early 20's ) and torturing him and mind controlling him ( not literaly ) and making him joker just with the hair actually green and the skin melted and bleached white instead of paint and dye. when arthur passes this joker comes along out from the dark and he is the one to face off batman till batman is in his late 30's and he has already got a teenager tim drake as robin, this joker capturews tim drake and torturing him doing the same thing arthur did turning him into joker and this tim drake joker is jared leto's recent joker that we have seen before in suicide squad.

Not sure if this is already and established theory or in one of the comics, but to me it seems like Bruce Wayne is the crazy one. All the villains (and allies) could represent different emotions or feelings, but they are actually all in the imagination of Bruce who is mentally ill because of the death of his parents (he couldve done it but he cant accept it because of this illness. On the topic of Jokers immortality, I feel like the Joker is more of an idea than anything which is why his origin doesnt matter. This would also seemingly make him immortal, but then again he couldve just taken a dip in the Lazarus Pit.

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I could be completely wrong, but I have heard from people who have seen it. If they are anything to go by, the movie will still leave us with more questions than answers about his origin. There are (presumably) even parts that make you question whether or not events are actually happening the way that they appear. If this is true, then his origin is still a mystery and he's still an unreliable narrator.

People are missing this one, but the joke he told on the Murray show. Knock knock, its the police ma'am your son was hit by a drunk driver, hes dead. Then when hes in the police car, he gets hit by an ambulance truck. So did he die at the end? Or was Arthur Fleck dead, but the Joker was born, which is why he put an even bigger smile on his face with his own blood. This movie was amazing

I am NOT saying Joker is definitely immortal but like Batman passed the torch to Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond, Joker may well be passing a torch. Then again, Vandal Savage and Ras Al Ghul ARE immortals, humans made immortal by powers we do not understand. And that is canonical too. So, who knows?

The Shining Theory doesn't make sense because they're a part of two different universes but however the one with the joker not being the actual Joker makes sense considering how old he is and that he's locked up in a mental hospital someone else will probably take up his mantle.

One of the best parts of the Joker is that no one really knows who he is, or why he is. not even Batman. I mean in the realm of comics Batman not knowing something is akin to the Gods not knowing. Trying to define an origin for The Joker is impossible

What if the clown that was in the cab and drove the ambulance in to the cop car at the end was inspired by Arthur and eventually becomes Heath Ledger's Joker? Could relate to what Jared Leto's Joker when he said I'm an idea, a state of mind.

I have always HATED that Joe Chill was sometimes the Waynes killer.
Either he should never have been found or I really love the idea that a pre-Joker Joker is the killer
The new Joker film is Joker in name only
