We Finally Understand Gibbs' Entire NCIS Backstory Steven: I used to watch this show religiously until the third time Gibbs got blown up. I ignored the whole Ziva David premise which was not only absurd but would never happen. No one becomes a federal law enforcement agent without attending FLETC or FBI Academy. The Abby character also strained credulity past the limits. Her shoes alone would keep her out of a real lab. And then there is the Gibbs problem. Enlisted Marine Gunnery Sergeant sniper is recruited to become federal agent. When did Gibbs get his undergraduate degree? And finally his age. Mark Harmon is approximately 68 playing someone under the age of 57 which is mandatory retirement age for federal law enforcement. The only exception is unless 20 years service has been achieved. That us not likely though as max age to join is 38. The Big Bang Theory was more credible.

Half way through the video, I realize how many women in Gibbs's life died by their own hand or murder. Some were cheaters and uninspiring people. No surprise to me really, since the first female costar, in the first season, was murdered, too. The actress apparently wanted to leave the show, but rather than simply reassign the character, which would have been more realistic -- she was murdered. So dramatic, but I thought that was disgusting, and I've only watch episodes wherein Robert Wagner showed up as what's his name's dad. I do not otherwise miss the show or any of its spinoffs. Of minor interest, Mark Harmon married Pam Dawber (of _Mork and Mindy_ fame, they are still married as far as I know, and she and I share a birthday. But I still won't watch that show.

All the characters of NCIS are dearly loved, but Gibbs. well, I've been a Mark Harmon fan for a long time (Summer School anyone) My mom had his picture hanging in her nursing home room along with Simon Baker. Gibbs's Rules for Life are pretty all encompassing and more people could stand to learn them. One question: If Gibbs's father is played by Ralph Waite, and Seeley Booth (from Bones) grandfather is played by the same actor, is it possible that there is a connection between Gibbs and Booth? Maybe Gibbs is Booth's uncle? Both opted to go in to the service after a troubled childhood and the similarities are uncanny. Can someone explore this relationship more?

Add my vote to those who informed you that Gibbs was never an MP. It's either faulty research or somebody bungled, just as when you said he was a trained sniper who was sent to _Panama_ during _Desert Storm! _ Good grief! FOR PETE'S SAKE, GET YOUR GEOGRAPHY STRAIGHT: Gibbs followed Hernandez to _Mexico_ and killed him there! Hernandez's son and daughter ran the cartel afterward and the son was in law enforcement in Mexico and had the evidence from his father's shooting. Thumbs down.

He was a scout sniper, not an MP. There are 70 or 71 rules now with the additions and the subtraction of rule 10, never get personally involved with a case when Bishop found Ziva's stash building. He tossed rule 10 in his fireplace.

Where as NCIS LA gives a character a back story of being a stripper, a lawyer and shooting their dad as a kid just for good measure of randomness of life events. Thought shame Hettys back story will always be shrouded in mystery.
